Swatch and Review of Serum No. 5 Some Bunny Wants Your Blood for Polish Pickup May 2019

I'm squeeking today's post in just in time for you to update those wishlists for Polish Pickup. And boy do I have a polish for you today. Some Bunny Wants Your Blood from Serum No 5 has so much going on it's sure to have something that everyone will love.

Inspired by Bunnicula, Some Bunny Wants Your Blood is a smoky black thermal with a jelly finish loaded with red, pink, copper and gold glitter. And if that wasn't enough it also has flakies that glow in the dark.  Yes, you read that right a glow in the dark thermal with a jelly base.

This might be my most picture heavy post featuring only one polish in the history of my blog! When cold SBWYB shows the black base packed with glitter, when warm it shifts to a light sandy brown, and it glows a bright green color.

The formula is easy to work with. Like all jelly polishes, I had just a hint of color on the first coat. The glitters are abundant and lay nice and flat on the nail.

The second coat built the opacity up nicely and you could probably get away with only doing two coats. Since I didn't know what color the polish would be shifting to at the time of swatching I decided to add a third coat for good measure and ensure full coverage during the transition. The polish is shown as three thin coats plus glossy topcoat in all my photos.

Because this polish is so full of glitter it does dry with a bit of a rough texture. A generous layer of good topcoat or two layers of a thinner one will leave you with a smooth finish.

And now for the glowing goodness! I charged my nails and the bottle under the lights from my lightbox for about 5 minutes and the results were seriously bright. In fact, my nails were still glowing over an hour later when I finally crawled into bed. It kinda freaked the Mr. out when he saw them and I got a good laugh out of it.

Some Bunny Wants You Blood goes on sale in the Polish Pickup on Friday, May 3rd at 11 am Eastern time and runs through Monday, May 6th. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Swatch and Review of Northen Star Be Excellent for Polish Pickup May 2019

Who's excited for Polish Pickup on Friday? Well, I hope you haven't finished those wish lists yet because I've got a versatile polish to share with you today from Northern Star Polish.  Be Excellent is inspired by Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Am I aging myself if I tell you I remember seeing this in theaters when it first came out?

Dark Dusty blue nail polish in a glossy creme finish

Be Excellent is a dusty dark blue creme nail polish. The formula is smooth and creamy, truly a dream to work with. I had even heavily opaque coverage on the first coat but not quite 100% full coverage.

Dark Dusty Blue Nail polish with a glossy creme finish

Full opacity and a smooth finish can be achieved with the addition of a second coat. This beauty dries to a very glossy finish, so much so that you'd think it already had topcoat added.  Shown here are two coats plus a glossy topcoat.

Dark dusty blue nail polish with a glossy creme finish

Now I only wore this for about an hour but I had no discoloration on my nails or evidence of staining. I did use a base coat for swatching and recommend always wearing one under your polish. Not only will it help your polish apply nicer but it will protect your nails from staining.

Remember I mentioned this polish was very opaque on the first coat?  This got me wondering if it would work well for stamping and guess what? It does!

I used Sinful Colors White Lies as my base and image plate UR-21 from UR Beautiful for this manicure.

Be Excellent is a lighter version when stamped but I really like the look. And it was so easy to work with, I was able to pick up a clean image each and every time.

Along with offering Be Excellent for Polish Pickup, Kristin is offering a cuticle oil set for Indie Pickup.  The Bodacious ‘80s snacks are inspired by the convenience store snack runs every Friday night: cherry slushie, taffy, lemon sour candy, and pink bubblegum.

Northern Star - Shards of the Heart Polish Pickup October 2018

Hello everyone, it's time to start making your wishlists for Polish Pickup! The theme for October is villans and today I will be sharing with you a polish that in my opinion needs to be on that list. Shards of the Heart from Northern Star Polish. Read on to see why I am so pleased with this polish.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Polish Pickup here's a quick rundown of how it works. Polish Pickup offers a fun, interactive experience that allows you to submit theme ideas, vote for your favorite theme, and selectively purchase your favorite polishes every month. The shop opens at 11 AM ET on the first Friday - Monday of every month. In this case, that's Oct. 5th -8th at www.polishpickup.comYou can pick which polishes you would like to purchase from the previously chosen theme. There is no box commitment. Purchase one or purchase them all! Shipping in the US is $3, $5 in Canada, and does ship internationally. Allow 3+ weeks for delivery. So, in other words, this is a pre-order event.

Shards of the Heart is inspired by Miss Havisham from Great Expectations and the Victorian Decaying bride aesthetic. "Miss Havisham is a character in the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations. She is a wealthy spinster, once jilted at the altar, who insists on wearing her wedding dress for the rest of her life. She lives in a ruined mansion with her adopted daughter, Estella." Quote from Wikipedia

Greyish purple nail polish with scattered holographic glitter

Shards of the Heart is a dark grey with lavender tint that looks like a creme indoors but contains two type of holographic pigments that sparkle in the sun. Subtle indigo micro flakes complete the polish.  My lighting really accentuated the hint of purple but under regular lighting, you will see more grey coming through.

You guys the formula on this is phenomenal! The polish has a great consistency and is very smooth but the awesome part is the opacity. I've been showing you one coat of polish plus top coat. that's right, this is one coat coverage. If you are in the habit of applying thin layers of polish you will probably need two but a regular layer will only require one. Shards of the Heart dries to a smooth, glossy finish that is slightly darker than what you see in the bottle.

I  have been drawn to grey polishes lately, the last three polishes I've worn have been grey and I purchased 5 more at Polishcon earlier this month. I think that the purple hint and subtle holo make this unique from the others and I am more than impressed with the opacity and coverage. The color is also great for the colder months that are soon to be upon us.

Shards of the Heart will be $11.75 USD and is capped at 75 bottles.

Make sure to check out Polish Pickup on Facebook and don't forget to make your purchases starting October 5th. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Great Lakes Lacquer - Going,Going, Already Gone

I'm reaching back into my bag of past Polish Pickup polishes today to bring you Going, Going, Already Gone from Great Lakes Lacquer. This blue-grey colored jelly polish with iridescent flakes and a sprinkling of scattered holo was released in April for the Across the Universe theme.

Blue-grey nail polish in a jelly finish with iridescent falkes and scattered holo glitter

This polish hit the "Pillars of Creation" theme on the head with its subtle flashes of gold.  With a smooth formula and beautiful consistency, this polish has that lit within look that I go gaga for. While this polish is a bit sheer on the first coat there is no shortage of flakes and full opacity is reached after the addition of a second coat.

This is one of those polishes that I have zero regrets about buying. I am typically not a fan of wearing blue polish on its own but this shade has just the right amount of grey for me, and what can I say about those flakes, they make this polish go from pretty to stunning.  Here's a video I made of this polish in direct sunlight.

While this polish is no longer available, you never know when the Polish Pickup will do another flashback theme and you just might get the chance to purchase this. Or it may pop up in a destash sale sometime.

If you're not familiar with Polish Pickup I highly recommend you check them out on Facebook. I have gotten so many beautiful polishes and been able to try out several new to me brands thanks to this monthly themed shop. JReine, Bluebird Lacquer, LynBDesigns, Contrary Polish, Supermoon Lacquer and Northern Star Polish are just a few of the brands I've purchased from through the Polish Pickup. And in case you were wondering the theme for September is Horror Movies and the polishes go on sale tomorrow Sept. 7th until Monday, Sept. 10th.

That's all I've got for you today. I hope you enjoyed Going, Going, Already Gone as much as I did. If you've purchased from the Pickup before, what was your favorite polish? Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

I don't know about you but I am a huge fan of the Polish Pickup. Where else can you find the opportunity to buy from so many brands in one place? Brands that are old favorites and new brands at the same time. One of the New Brands for me is JReine back in April for the Across the Universe theme with a polish called the Galaxy Rocks.

LynBDesigns - Biz Myth-Icorn

Hey Everyone, I'm back with another quick post to share with you today. I know a lot of my posts have been quick ones lately but what can I say, the weather gets nicer and I get busier. Spring has finally arrived here in Minnesota and with that brings softball, volleyball, camping and a girls weekend away. That last one happens to be this weekend and I am so excited for it. My girlfriends from Highschool and I are getting away to celebrate the fact that we all turned 40 this year. But before I get to celebrating I need to share with you Biz-Myth-Icorn from LynBDesigns.

Biz-Myth-Icorn was released in January for the Polish Pickup theme Crystals and Gemstones. The inspiration for this polish was a bismuth unicorn crystal. Not sure what that is? Don't worry you're not alone, I had to google it myself. According to Wikipedia Bismuth is a brittle metal with a white, silver-pink hue, often occurring in its native form, with an iridescent oxide tarnish showing many colors from yellow to blue. The variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the crystal causes different wavelengths of light to interfere upon reflection, thus displaying a magnificent rainbow of colors. I bet you didn't think you'd be getting a science lesson in a nail polish post did you!

This polish is a brilliant combination of pale lilac purple with UCC flakes mixed in that flash purple to blue to red and gold. I knew the moment I saw this that I wanted to have it.

The formula is incredible with a smooth application, even coverage and TONS of flakes on the first coat. The flakes all lay flat against the nail leaving only a hint of texture once the polish dries.  Shown here are two coats plus top coat.

Once I had this polish on I started to think it might be too light for me and I was bummed because it is such a stunner. I am happy to say that as I wore this I started to like it more and more. I think it's a great polish for spring and I'm so happy I picked it up when I had the chance.

That's all for now, Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Contrary Polish - The Juice Fiend

Today I've got a polish to share with you from Contrary Polish which was released for the November Polish Pickup Fandom theme.  The inspiration for this polish is Buster from the show Arrested Development. I have to be honest here and let you know that I've never watched the show. But it did inspire one gorgeous polish.

Purple jelly base with scattered magenta flakes and blue micro shimmer nail polish

The Juice Fiend has a purple jelly-like base filled with scattered holographic flakes and blue micro-shimmer.

This is my first polish from Contrary Polish and I have to say that I was pleased with what I experienced. The formula what I typically experience with a nail polish. The first coat applied thinly and was a bit patchy like a lot of jelly polishes are. The Juice Fiend builds up nicely and has even coverage after two coats. Shown here is two coats plus top coat.

The purple jelly base, the beautiful blue shimmer, and the holographic flakes add depth and Character to this polish. In fact, there are so many aspects to this polish I had a hard time capturing them all on film.

I have since ordered a few more polishes from Contrary Polish but I have a feeling The Juice Fiend will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Supermoon Lacquer - Moon Crystal Power

Today on the blog I've got my thoughts on Moon Crystal Power from Supermoon Lacquer. I recently used this polish is my art deco nail art and as promised, now I'm showing this beauty all on its own.

Moon Crystal Power was released in January in the Polish Pickup Pack as part of the Crystals and Gemstones theme. If you haven't checked out Polish Pickup yet I highly recommend that you do. It's a great way to discover new brands and have a variety of polishes available for one flat shipping rate. I've got the basic information in my review of Northern Star's Scream of Nature post from the very first month PPU was available. The group has grown quite a bit since then and now offers nail polish, nail care items and jewelry from 70 different makers! I've picked up a few cuticle balms and oils, a sugar scrub, wax melts and a shot glass over the last year. I've gotten off topic though so now it's back to the polish.

Pale lilac polish with holographic falkes

Moon Crystal Power is a pale lilac polish with a pink undertone and scattered holographic flakies. Mardi's inspiration was the Maboroshi no Ginzuishou (illusionary Silver Crystal) from the anime Sailor Moon.

pale lilac nail polish with holographic flakes

The Formula for Moon Crystal Power is perfection. The polish applies smoothly and evenly with a nice opacity on the first coat. It's not quite a one coat polish but its pretty darn close. Full opacity was reached on the second coat. I felt just a hint of texture on my nails once the polish dried but it was nothing that a little top coat couldn't take care of. Shown here is two coats plus top coat.

Pale Lilac nail polish with holographic flakes

This is my first polish from Supermoon lacquer but it won't be my last. I was really impressed with the formula and I absolutely love the color.  I'm actually wearing it on my toes as I write this. Mardi has mentioned bringing back every polish she's ever made and releasing them sometime this summer. What I want to know from you is, which Supermoon lacquer is your favorite and should be added to my wishlist? Be sure to come back on Thursday to see my latest drip marble creation. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Polish Pickup Northern Star - Scream of Nature

Hey, everyone, I am so excited about today's post! I have the fortunate opportunity to tell you about the Polish Pickup and share with you one of the colors from its inaugural month. Just what is the Polish Pickup you ask? Well, The Polish Pickup is a new take on the polish collaboration boxes, run by Fair Maiden Polish creators Adrienne and Sarah. Instead of buying one set box, polish lovers have the option to create their own box by selecting from a variety of polishes available each month. Starting in April the theme is "Works of Art". The polish I'm sharing with you today is from Northern Star Polish and is called Scream of Nature, inspired by Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.”

Courtesy of www.edvardmunch.org

Scream of Nature is a navy leaning teal based polish with red, gold and orange shifting flakes and pink and copper chrome pigment flashes in the background like bursts of color against a dark sky. Kristin said she was inspired by the quote the author included from Munch’s diary about where the idea came from:
“I was walking down the road with two friends when the sun set; suddenly, the sky turned red as blood. I stopped and leaned against the fence, feeling unspeakably tired. Tongues of fire and blood stretched over the bluish black fjord. My friends when on walking, while I lagged behind, shivering with fear. Then I heard the enormous infinite scream of nature.”

Scream of Nature has a smooth formula and easy application. The first coat was a little sheer and to me seemed a little flat compared to what I saw in the bottle. Not to fear though everything came together on the second coat. Full opacity was reached and I saw the gorgeous shimmer from the bottle on my nails. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

I have to admit when I first opened my package I thought Scream of Nature was a pretty polish but not really my thing. Then I really looked at it and started to notice the depth that it had. From one angle I saw a flash of the flakes turn the bottle another direction and I was hit with an intense shimmer. I knew my first impression was wrong and I was going to love wearing this polish!

dark-blue-nail-polish-with orange-and-gold-flakes-and-pink-shimmer

Becuase there is so much going on with this polish I've included some bonus shots to help show all the details off. Now don't get me wrong, there isn't so much that it's overwhelming. Different angles and lighting bring out a different characteristic. It's like a little surprise each time you look at your nails.
