Parallax Polish - The Stat-Ick-Stics Collection

Wow, it seems like forever since I've written a blog post! I was just starting to get my momentum back for blogging and then life struck again. Between house hunting, a promotion at work, and the kids getting involved with after school activities my days have turned into a whirlwind and a daze all at once. I've still been painting my nails, taking photos and writing notes but never seem to find the time to sit down a write the actual posts. I seriously have half a notebook filled up with things to share with all of you and I decided to start with the Stat-Ick-Stics collection from Parallax Polish which is available for purchase right now.

This 5 polish collection was inspired by the events in Erin's research area ( statistics and psychology) along with the general whines she has to listen to while teaching the class. What a great way to get out some frustrations right? Just make a nail polish collection based off of your stress!

"Power is the ability for our research projects to work out the way we hope them to, while Alpha and Beta are mistakes that can happen in research. These mistakes are Errors but I have also started teaching the class with a program called R, which gives you lots of errors when trying to learn. Do I have to is the most common thing I hear students say – unfortunately, the answer is always “if you want to pass”. "

This post is going to be picture heavy so I'm going to keep it short and sweet from here on out. I know most people come for the pictures anyway. All photos are shown as 2 coats plus top coat and taken in a light box.

Color:  Dark shimmery purple polish that in the right lighting will show you some very sparse holographic sparkle.

Application: I had smooth even application for the most part but did notice if I tried to use a very thin coat there was slight dragging.

Finish: Dries to a sparkly matte finish.

Color: A vampy red nail polish with dark blue holographic glitter.

Application: Smooth but a little sheer on the first coat. Builds up to full opacity after 2 coats.

Finish: Dries to a matte finish with some slight texture from the glitters.

Color: Black nail polish with silver foil flecks.

Application: This beauty was a 1 coater for me that flowed seamlessly onto the nail.

Finish: Dries to a matte finish.

     Color: Silver scattered holographic.

Application: Smooth even coverage with zero dragging.

Finish: Dries to a Matte finish with TONS of sparkle.

     Color: Shimmery deep emerald green.

Application: Smooth and even. This one was almost a 1 coater for me.

Finish: Dries to a satin finish, There are a few brushstrokes, but they almost disappear with the addition of top coat.

Overall I like this collection. It's full of nice rich deep colors perfect for the cooler temperatures. I love how the matte finish combines with the silver flecks in Power to look like a night sky full of stars. I might have to try it as a base for a galaxy manicure. And don't even get me started on that sparkle in Do I Have To?! You know me, I love a good sparkly nail polish especially one that applies so smoothly.

This collection is available for purchase right now in a variety of sizes and prices that are sure to work with anyone's budget. Just hop on over to storeenvy and check it out. And don't forget to keep up with all the latest news from Parallax polish by checking out the Facebook page, or following on Instagram and twitter! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas- Aqua or Turquoise

It's time for another look from the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas Challenge! I don't know if you know this but I am actually really enjoying this challenge. Normally I get stressed during a challenge and struggle to get my looks done. But not this time! And you want to know why? This challenge is set up a bit differently than most. For starters there is the option to do weekly manicures with one week dedicated to themes, and one to colors. Or you can do every other week and stick with themes only or colors only. For the color portion of the challenge each person is also assigned a pattern. The end result is 40 different looks all done in the same colors. As most of you know I opted to do the color challenge and you can see my previous looks using TealOrange, Purple and GreenBlack and WhiteGreyGlitter toppersPale Blue and 3 shades of Purple.  This posting every other week is just my speed and helps keep me relaxed and stress free for the challenge.

This week the color theme is Aqua or Turquoise  and my pattern prompt is water color. The water color technique is one that I love but have been afraid to attempt until now. And to be completely honest this is one look that I didn't nail, but now I have a little more confidence and look forward to trying again. After I watch a few more YouTube videos on how's it's done of course.

For this manicure I started with Parallax Polish Arctic Ice from the newly released Secret of the 7 Seas Collection. You know how I mentioned watching some Youtube videos on how to do the water color manicure, yeah I probably should have watched a few before I attempted this manicure. I had no idea really what I was doing, but I jumped right in! I used the same technique as I did for my black and white swirl manicure from earlier in the challenge.

Doing one nail at a time I placed random dots of Milani Fresh Teal and Maybelline Day Glow Teal on the nail. Then I took a nail art brush dipped in acetone and dabbed at the center of the dots. I was going for a more translucent look for the centers rather than removing the color completely but as you can see that didn't work out. And I knew the more I tried the more frustrated I would become and end up ruining the whole thing. We've all had days like that right?

While this manicure didn't turn out exactly as I planned I still like it. Its kinds funky and fun, and very different from any manicure I've done before. Next time I try a water color manicure I'll be sure to use a few more colors and overlap the dots a bit more. See if I can get it to look a bit more like floating bubbles. For those of you who have successfully done this technique, do you have any words of wisdom or tips for the water color novice? Let me know in the comments and then be sure to check out the other looks created for the Aqua or Turquoise challenge. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Parallax Polish - The Secrets of the 7 Seas Collection

Available this week is the gorgeous Secrets of the 7 Seas Collection from Parallax Polish. A stunning collection depicting the different wonders you can find in water, and highlights different facts about the ocean. There's a lot to get through and a ton of photos so I'll keep my words short and sweet.  Let's dive right in shall we...

   * All polishes are shown with 2 coats plus top coat unless noted. And photographed in my light box using daylight bulbs. For the holographic polishes I did take a few photos directly under the light.*

3.5° is described as a Gold- blue linear holographic polish. Fun Fact: The average ocean temperature is 3.5 degrees.  To me it looked a bit more like an icy blue linear holographic that wanted to photograph more silver than blue. But I did get a few flashes of gold from time to time.

3.5-degrees-parallax-polish-7-seas-collection-icy-blue-holographic-nail-polish

Application was smooth and even and I was pleasantly surprised at how opaque the first coat was. The holographic flame was so strong with this one that my camera couldn't capture a decent macro shot. So I have a blurry one to show you. But its got a nice rainbow in it.

Bio Mimicry  is described as a dark teal-purple duo chrome. Fun Fact: Bio mimicry is a form of protection the many ocean creatures use to blend in with their backgrounds. I have to say that the description is dead on for this one.

Bio-Mimicry-7-seas-collection-Parallax-Polish-teal-to-purple-duo-chrome-nail-polish

Shown here with 3 thin coats plus top coat. Application was typical with the first coat going on slightly streaky but evening out after 2 and reaching full opacity after 3. I love the depth that this polish has.

Sea Foam is a shimmery teal polish that doesn't leave brushstrokes. Yes you read that right, 0 brushstrokes! Fun Fact: Algae breaks down in the ocean, which then gets thrown against the shore in waves on the beach. This agitation creates sea foam, the bubbles you see at the beach.

Sea-Foam-Secrets-7-seas-collection-Parallax-Polish-shimmer-teal-nail-polish-with-a-golden-glow

Application was once again smooth, but a little sheer on the first coat. Builds up nicely but has a slight VNL after 2. Not as noticeable to the naked eye as it is to my camera.

Challenger Deep is a matte black polish that glows purple in the dark. Sadly I dropped the ball and didn't get to photograph this one in it's glowing state. A fact that I will remedy as soon as I get the chance. I had it in the back of my mind to take those photos but it was a distracting day at my house and blew it. Fun Fact : Challenger Deep is the deepest part of the ocean, in Mariana's Trench. The matte black matches the color of the ocean, with a glow in the dark to represent bio-luminescence of living creatures.

Challenger-Deep=Secrets-7-seas-collection-Parallax-polish-Black-matte-nail-polish

Application was again streaky on the first coat. Typical of most matte polishes in my opinion, and evens out after the 2nd coat.  As you can see there is also a bit of a bumpy texture that adds character to and separates this from your usual black matte polish. I should also note that the texture is a bit magnified by my camera.  Because of the matte finish I have chosen to show this without top coat.

Coral Reef is a solar changing polish that goes from clear to purple and contains purple micro glitter. Again I was unable to get any color changing shots but that is because the sun has been hiding for the last 2 weeks. Yes I'm starting to get cabin fever and yes I will get sun shots as soon as the weather wants to cooperate. Fun Fact: This polish is inspired by coral bleaching- where coral loses it's color because of too warm or cold- which is represented by the solar changing of this polish.

Coral-Reef-7-Seas-collection-Parallax-polish-Solar-changing-nail-polish-purple-glitter

Application is smooth with tons of glitter in each coat. Because of the clear base 3 thin coats were needed to reach a an opacity that I was happy with.

Gulf Stream is a blue-green linear holographic polish. The holo isn't quite as strong compared to 3.5°  but is still a gorgeous polish. Fun Fact: The Gulf Stream is a current that runs from Florida up the Atlantic that helps control temperature and is being explored for renewable power energy.

Gulf-Stream-Holographic-blue-nail-polish-7-seas-collection-parallax-polish

This polish was also surprisingly opaque after 1 coat with smooth even application. And isnt that just a gorgeous shade of blue!

Arctic Ice is a blueish silver holographic polish. For me this one leaned more to the silver side and had the weakest holographic flash of the 3 holos in this collection. I also got hints or purple as I moved my hand around in the light. Fun Fact: This polish represents the ice sheets that help cool the ocean, and gives polar animals places to live.

Arctis-Ice-7-seas-collection-Parallax-Polish-Silver-blue-holographic-nail-polish

While sheer on the first coat this beauty builds up nicely with its smooth, even application. It sort of reminds me of champagne, with its subtle hints of color and delicate feel.

Whew! There you have it. 7 polishes representing 7 secrets from our oceans. Thanks for sticking with me this far. I know that was a lot to take in. This collection is available now in 3 sizes  from Parallax polish. The full collection will cost anywhere from $23-$70 depending on which size you choose. Or you can pick up for favorite colors individually for $3-$12 depending on the color and bottle size. Be sure to keep up with all things Parallax Polish by checking them out online. Hobby Polish Bloggers presents - Gradients

If you've followed my blog for any length of time you know I'm a member of the Facebook group Hobby Polish Bloggers. Its a great group of supportive bloggers who help answer questions and are really there to help each other grow. Every month the group votes on a theme and has a link up. This months theme was a gradient, which I took a step further and added a little nail art.  Are you ready to see it?

I know this isn't an original look, not even for me. I did a similar one for a summer time nail art challenge back in 2014. What can I say I'm a fan of this look! Plus I needed something summery to cheer me up after the frigid temps here lately.

For my gradient I used 3.5° and Coral Reef, two polishes from an upcoming collection by Parallax Polish. The Wonders of the 7 Seas Collection is releasing in early Feb and I'll have all the details for you in a future post. And trust me you wont want to miss it! Sparkles, shimmers, and glitter everywhere you turn, its a stunning collection.

The image I used is from Bundle Monster plate bm-424 stamped with Zoya Black Swan. The best black in my collection when it comes to stamping. But I'm always looking for another one so if you've got a favorite let me know so I can check it out.

So there you have it, my take on a gradient manicure this time around at least. Now let's see what everyone else has come up with. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Parallax Polish - The Brain Scan Collection Part 3 The Mattes

Rounding out this fun week of the new Brain Scan Collection from Parallax Polish is the matte finishes. I do have to warn you I am sharing 2 polishes today but only 1 will be available in this finish. I will get more into that once I show you the polish later in the post.

If you're just joining my reviews of this collection be sure to check out my previous posts on the linear holos and the scattered holos. And remember each color is available in all 3 finishes for a total of 21 options to choose from when the collection releases this Saturday, Aug 29th.

One thing to keep in mind when looking at purchasing this collection is that the finish changes the color slightly, as you can see from the image above. Thankfully there will be lots of swatches for you to check out and help make up your mind. Now onto the swatches...

Fusiform Gyrus is as eye-searing neon orange. My camera had a lot of trouble with this one. I used a white base on my ring finger only to see if that made much of a difference. It's not as obvious in this photo but the orange color really popped over white. Shown here is 2 coats without top coat.

The application was very good for a matte polish not to mention a neon matte polish. There were a few streaks on the first coat but they were minimal. And dry time was almost nonexistent.

In the macro shot, you can really see how much the white undies helps the orange to pop. And you'll see later how great this goes with black. I'm already getting ideas for a Halloween manicure.

Brocas is an indigo blue polish shown here in the matte finish. This polish will not be available in the matte finish for sale on Saturday. As you can see there are small deposits of pigment on my nails. After talking with Erin about this and a few tweaks to the formula the matte finish has been pulled for now. I decided to still share this polish so you could see the color, and decide if you'd want it in another finish.

Here are Erin's words about this polish...
I love this blue but it's just the crankiest thing. The matte version of #broca does not break down all the way, and you get pigment clumps, which can be seen here. Lame. I hadn't noticed this fact because (I think) my tester had settled from sitting for a while, and I'm easily distracted by sparkly things (aka the sparkle versions of this color). The lovely ladies of @lustrouslacquer and @mynailpolishobsession did notice thankfully so I am announcing that the matte version won't be available on the launch. I'm working on a solution but not optimistic for this exact color. The holo versions appear to be fine, as they are made in a different way. They will be available for the launch! Once I have a stable version of this color, I'll send it out for swatches from folks. If you want to buy the whole set matte, you can get the upgraded holo version of Brocas for free. ($6x6 polishes = 36$ plus Brocas of your choice). Thanks for your understanding! I didn't want to list a polish that had issues, but also be transparent about why it wasn't available yet.

Despite the pesky formula issues application was really good. The polish flowed smoothly and dried quickly.

I like how squishy it looks here with 2 coats. And I happened to notice how close this polish is to Bryant from the SeCience Collection if you're looking for a close dupe. Brocas is a little darker.

Now, how about some nail art? You didn't think Id finish off this review without any, did you?

For Fusiform Gyrus I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism and Image plate 03 From MoYou Londons tropical collection. The little black rhinestone is from Born Pretty Store. The accent nail on Brocas was done with Milani White on the Spot and Image plate 04 from MoYou Londons Kaleidoscope collection. I then went in and added a few dots with Brocas for my own little twist on the design.

As I mentioned above this Collection is releasing Saturday, Aug 29th, but what I didn't mention was that there's currently a little giveaway going on over at Parallax Polish in honor of her 1 year Anniversary.  You can find all the details on that, plus upcoming collections and release dates at the following links...

If you'd like to see other colors available for purchase check out my previous reviews of The Women in Science CollectionKryptonMarshallBig Bang, and The SeCience Collection. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
