Untried A- Z Challenge Letter F

Happy First day of Spring everyone and welcome to the 6th week of the Untried A-Z Challenge. This week is the letter F and I'm mixing things up by sharing two polishes with you today. That's the beauty of this challenge, the only rule is that the polish or brand has to start with the appropriate letter. And since the point of this challenge is to work through my untried polishes I figured sharing more than one would be a great way to get through a few more.

I chose 2 polishes from KBShimmer for letter F week, one I've had in my collection for over a year and one from last summer.  And it just so happens that both colors are a bit spring like so they work as a first day of spring manicure too even if there isn't any nail art. Ok, I might be reaching a bit there but I'm asking you to just go with me on this.

Flock This Way

Flock This Way was released in the Summer Vacation collection 2017 and is one of my newer untried polishes. This medium pink polish has a smattering of holographic glitter fragments that almost twinkle when in direct lighting.

The application process was a dream. Flock this Way is highly pigmented and flows smoothly onto the nail. I was able to get even coverage on the first coat and almost complete opacity. Shown here is two coats plus top coat.

Flake Me Home Tonight

Flake Me Home Tonight was released in the fall of 2016 as part of the Fall Collection. This pale sage green polish has a metallically foil finish which causes the hue of it to lighten and darken depending on the lighting.

While not as opaque as Flock This Way I was still able to get even coverage on the first coat. It does build up nicely and full opacity can be reached after two coats. Flake Me Home Tonight does dry with a slight texture but that can be smoothed out with a good top coat. Shown here as two coats plus top coat.

So there you have my two letter F polishes for this weeks challenge. I like both colors and think that they would go together perfectly in a manicure. Even with the mixed finishes. Were you able to get the spring vibe I mentioned earlier? Do you have a favorite from these two?

Now let's see what the others have picked for their letter F polishes. And please feel free to add your manicures to the link up if you used one with the letter F in the brand or color name. I'd love to have more people join in. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sinful Colors 2018 Walgreen's Exclusive Core Line Color Additions

As many of you know I am a big fan of Sinful Colors nail polish. They offer a wide variety of finishes and colors, most of the time the formula is great and, you can't really beat the price. When I heard they were adding 10 new colors to the core line in 2018 I was excited, not only for the new colors but for the hunt it would take to find them.

You may have noticed the new collections popping up in fewer and fewer places lately which makes finding them a challenge at times. But not to fear after a month of looking and multiple stores searched I have found all 10 colors. I won't be sharing all 10 with you today, just the 4 that are exclusive to Walgreens.

*Also on a side note, my phone case ended up reflecting in my macro shot of Mixed Signals causing the polish to have a pink tint to it. There is no pink tint in this polish, it was just so shiny every effort I made to photograph it showed a reflection*

Holla At Ya Buoy

Sky blue creme nail polish 2018 core line color addition exclusive to walgreens

Color: A deep sky blue creme nail polish.

Application: The formula is nice with a good opacity and smooth, even coverage. I was almost able to get full opacity after one coat. Shown here is two coats plus topcoat.

Holla At Ya Buoy ended up drying a little lighter than I was expecting which I actually really like. It's a pretty shade of blue that I can see myself wearing alone or using as a base for nail art. I do have a suspicion that it will be a stainer though so I recommend using a good base coat or even doubling up on your base coat to avoid any issues.

Shock Candy

Dusty lilac purple creme nail polish 2018 core line color addition exclusive for walgreens

Color: Dusty lilac purple creme nail polish.

Application: A very smooth formula that self-levels and is very opaque. I only had a slight VNL after one coat. Shown as 2 coats plus topcoat. This polish dries to a very high shine and smooth finish that's similar to a glossy top coat.

Shock Candy dries just a tad darker than what you see in the bottle and I love it. It a nice neutral color but isn't boring. Do you ever put on a polish and immediately get a nail art idea? Well, that's what happened to me to moment this dried on my nails.  I love it when that happens. I won't be sharing the nail art today but I will soon so make sure you come back for that.

Mixed Signals

Silver metallic foil nail polish 2018 core line addition color exclusive for Walgreens

Color: Silver metallic foil nail polish.

Application: The formula for Mixed Signals is thinner than the rest and applied semi sheerly on the first coat. It does build up nicely and I was able to get full opacity after two coats. Shown as two coats plus top coat.

This color reminds me of Sally Hansen's Celeb City or Zoya's Trixi but with larger particles. Although this looks textured it does dry to a smooth finish. Mixed Signals does suffer from a few brushstrokes which was expected since it is a foil finish. I decided to test a theory during application to see if I could avoid them. On my ring finger, instead of painting on the second coat like normal I applied it with a sponge. It seemed to work but the textured look of the polish made it hard to tell for sure. You can be sure I'll be testing the theory again and will share my results.

Sucker Punch

Strawberry red nail polish with magenta shimmer 2018 core line color addition exclusive for Walgreens

Color: Strawberry red nail polish with magenta shimmer.

Application: This one was surprisingly opaque on the first coat with only a slight VNL left after one coat. The formula is great with a smooth easy application and a nice ability to build opacity. Shown as two coats plus top coat.

This is a beautiful color that I really liked with my skin tone. The shimmer adds a little something extra and I like that it's not a true deep red. In some lighting, this color can lean a little more to the pink side than red which makes it a unique color for my collection.

What do you think of the new colors? Are there any that have made your must-have list? My favorites are Shock Candy and Sucker Punch. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sinful Colors- Hush Money

I've decided to dedicate this week on the blog to Sinful Colors. After all, I own enough to almost fill an entire helmer I might as well feature them on the blog right! I know everyone wants to see the new colors and collections but today I'm throwing it back to  2016 with Hush Money. Which I believe has been added to Sinful Colors core line.

Hush Money is a rose gold colored shimmery foil finished nail polish. On the website, the official color description is a bronze I didn't feel like that accurately described the color. The subtle hint of pink keeps this from being a nude color it's still very neutral and I feel like it almost gives me mannequin hands.

The formula is great with smooth even coverage on the first coat. I was expecting a bit of sheerness but Hush Money has a nice opacity to it and only 2 coats were needed for full coverage. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat. Like most foil finishes this polish does suffer from brush strokes but as you can see they are very minimal. I think the added shimmer helps to hide them.

Over all, I do like the color but because it is so neutral I don't think I would wear it on its own again. I can see it working out nicely as an accent nail or as a base for nail art. Plus it was so opaque I'm tempted to see if it will stamp or watermarble. Hush Money also reminds me a lot of Gold N Roses which is also from Sinful Colors so I'll be comparing them in the near future. How do you feel about neutral colors like this? Does Hush Money have enough visual interest for you to wear it or is it too bland for your tastes? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Orly - Luxe

Welcome to my first post as the proud owner of my own .com!!! That's right no more blogspot for me. Woohoo!  I decided that if I really wanted to get serious about blogging that I needed to make that leap. I'm probably way more excited about it than a grown woman should be but I can't help it. I was jumping up and down and all giddy like a school girl that just got asked out by her biggest crush last night. And to start this party off I've got Orly Luxe to share with you. So let's get to the polish, shall we...

Orly released Luxe in the spring of  2010 as part of the Foil Fx collection. The finish on this one is pretty unique. Instead of being all one color, Luxe is made up of tiny gold and silver particles giving more depth to the finished look than your typical gold polish.

Luxe-from-the-Foil-FX-Collection-by-Orly

Shown here as 2 easy coats plus top coat. Application of Luxe is smooth with even coverage on each coat.  And would you look at that, no real brushstrokes! You don't see that very often with a metallic finish.

I like how this looks like real foil on my nails yet there's no texture to it at all. Even before adding the top coat I had smooth nails.  I used Luxe for quite a few manicures during the Christmas nail art challenge but the best look at it is in my art-deco attempt while reviewing some nail vinyls.

Even though Orly released this color in 2010 you can still find it in stores. In fact, I saw it at Sally's the other day if you want to add it to your collection.  I'd love to hear what your go-to gold polish is in the comments. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

What's in a finish? - Foil

Hello there everyone. It's time to get back to my nail polish finish series now that all the holiday madness and nail art challenge is over. Today I am going to take a look at the foil finish.

The foil finish nail polish often has a metallic base with very very fine glitters added. It dries to a smooth finish but not quite as smooth as a chrome. This results in a very sparkly finish.

Zoya Bobbi

Foils are usually compared to metallic finishes but there are significant differences between the two. Metallics typically come in metal colors, copper, gold, silver whereas foils cover the entire spectrum of the rainbow. Giving you a wider variety to choose from.

I hope you've enjoyed this post, be sure to check out previous posts in this series and as always Happy polishing!
