Laser Lace Nail Art

Today I have a fun new product to share with you from Dollar Nail Art. It's called Laser Lace and when I saw it on their website I knew I wanted to try it. I thought to myself that I might finally be able to share a completely new product with all of you and ordered a sheet in every color. The pictures they showed looked absolutely stunning and unique to any of the nail art looks I've seen from others. Now I still might be able to share with you a brand new product but it's not an easy product to work with. Let's take a look.

For my first look, I used the Raspberry Laser lace over a base of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I wanted to do full coverage on an accent nail and then random pieces on each additional nail. Well, I did it but it didn't turn out how I wanted.

For starters, the laser lace is extremely delicate and once it was cut into pieces it wanted to separate. So instead of getting nice little strips on my nails, I ended up with random splotches. I do like how my pointer finger turned out, it's almost like the veins in marble. Which if you've been reading my blog for the last year you'd know that's a look I love but haven't mastered yet.

I wasn't ready to give up just yet so I decided to try the lace over a darker base just to see if it made a big difference.

This time around I used Cult Nails Black Out as my base and the Sky Blue Laser Lace. Yes, I know it doesn't look blue at all, yet it did before I cut it into smaller pieces. I'm not sure exactly why it has changed. I thought maybe I applied it upside down but that wasn't the case. Either way, I do like the contrast between the lace and the black. But I am disappointed I didn't get the pale blue color.

As you can see my second attempt was not a success. I think at this point I was getting frustrated, especially since my blue lace didn't look blue at all!

So here are some tips I learned while trying the Dollar Nail Art Laser Lace. I hope if you decide to try this product they will help you. Also, I should mention quickly that removal was easy. The lace came right off with regular remover.

 1. Have your pieces cut and ready to apply right after applying your top coat as it is not self-adhesive.
 2. Work on one nail at a time!
 3. Have a soft brush or similar item handy to push the lace onto your nail. That way you can avoid using too much pressure and ruining your base color.
 4. After applying the lace use a good top coat to cover it because there will be a LOT of texture. I recommend one made specifically for chunky glitter. If you don't own one it will take at least 2 thick coats of a regular top coat to smooth it out. And even then you'll still have aome slight texture.

I definitely need more practice with this product. Maybe I'll have better luck when my nails are longer since I always seem to have trouble with nail art when my nails are nubbins. So what do you think of the laser lace? Do you have any other tips that might make my next attempt more successful? Have I scared you away from trying this product? Let me know in the comments and as always Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Cult Nails - Disciplined

Today I have a quick post to share with you. The reason I'm keeping it short is because this polish is no longer available. In fact, you can no longer get any polish from this company and I know a lot of people are still really bummed about that. Cult Nails was huge and had a lot of people lusting after their pretty creations. Disciplined was no exception, and you'll see why when you look at my pictures.

Released in 2013 as part of the Behind Closed Doors collection this neutral grey polish packs a big punch with its intense micro shimmer

What looks to most like a soft grey  creme polish is actually filled with blue, pink and purple micro shimmer.

The application was smooth but very sheer on the first coat. Disciplined builds up nicely and 3 coats  will achieve full opacity.

Every single polish from cult nails that I've tried I've been happy with and I wish I had gotten more when I had the chance. I'd love to hear which one was your favorite, or which one did you miss out on that you're still kicking yourself about. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

40 Great Nail Art Ideas- Pale Blue Base

Its time come again for another installment of the 40 Great Nail Art Ideas Challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with this challenge here's a quick explanation. This challenge is set up a bit differently than most. For starters there is the option to do weekly manicures with one week dedicated to themes, and one to colors. Or you can do every other week and stick with themes only or colors only. For the color portion of the challenge each person is also assigned a pattern. The end result is 40 different looks all done in the same colors. I've opted to do the color portion of the challenge and have been having a lot of fun so far.

Now after doing 2 similar looks for this challenge I wanted to try and think outside the box and come up with some interesting looks to share. I think I did just that with my tie-dye manicure but for this week I was crunched for time and took the easy way out. You'd think after having 2 weeks off from work I would have found a little time to do some nail art! Sadly my style seems to be put things off till the very last minute lately. So here is my pale blue base manicure with a tribal pattern.

I started with Pure Ice Prince Charming from the newly released Fairy-tale Forrest Collection. A pale blue with subtle micro shimmer.

Thank God my clear jelly stamper showed up last week because it made adding the tribal pattern go on almost effortlessly and faster than I've ever done a stamping manicure before. Seriously if you like to stamp and haven't pick this miracle stamper yet do it right now. I mean it, open a new window and order that baby up. I'll wait.... got your order placed? OK let's continue.

Like I mentioned above I was crunched for time so stamping was the only way for me to go and I really liked this image from the promotional plate offered by Cult Nails about a year ago. I'm still so sad that they closed up shop...one of the very first indies I ever purchased.

I used Orly Glitz to stamp with and am extremely happy with how well it worked. For some reason I had it in my head that I had to use gold for a tribal pattern if my base was pale blue. It seemed more authentic to me, but don't ask me why.  And after sitting and staring at my collection for 20 minutes trying to pick a different color I gave up and went with gold.

I do actually like the way these colors go together and happy that I stuck with my original idea. But I wanted to see what it would look like matte. Again thinking it would have a more authentic feel to it.

Now with the matte top coat you lose the sparkle in Prince Charming but I still prefer it this way. Its not a huge difference from the glossy version but it has a different feeling to it for me. Here's a macro of both look so you can pick which one you like better and let me know in the comments.

And remember this is a nail art challenge so there's a link up involved, so be sure to check out the other looks. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sinful Colors - Midnight Blue

We are half way through the week and I am completely exhausted! I don't know if the time change finally caught up with me or what but I can't seem to be stuck in a semi-conscious state these days. So please forgive me but this post is going to be short and sweet but picture heavy. We all just like looking at the pictures anyway right? Well sit back and prepare to be awed by Sinful Colors Midnight Blue from the 2011(holiday) Wish Collection.

Sinful-colors-wish-collection-midnight-blue

Midnight Blue is a bright blue metallic polish and while it is gorgeous it will stain so make sure to use a VERY good base coat. I actually ended up using 2 and had no issues. 1 was a ridge filler and the other was a basic base coat I added as a precaution.

Application was smooth and easy while being extremely opaque on the first coat. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

I have never loved a blue nail polish so much. Just look at it! And of course because it was so opaque I had to test it for stamping.

I used Cult Nails Disciplined as my base (still heartbroken over their closing) and Kaleidoscope plate 05 from MoYou London. My hunch was right, this beauty stamped like a dream.

If you're still looking for that perfect rich blue polish than this one is it. I still see it on the shelf when I go to Walgreens, its got a fantastic formula, the price couldn't be any better and it stamps! What more could you ask for from a nail polish? Although I guess self application and removal would be pretty awesome. Id love to hear your thoughts on Midnight Blue or another Sinful Colors polish you absolutely love. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Cult Nails - In A Trance

It's Friday! I really want to be excited about that but I'm too tired, it's been a long week. Anyone else feel the same? Today's I'm continuing my posts on those indies who have closed up shop with In A Trance by Cult Nails.

In A Trance is an army green polish with golden micro shimmer. A unique shade that I never thought I would wear but couldn't help ordering after seeing gorgeous swatch photos floating around the internet.

The application is smooth with the first coat being sheer but even. Full opacity can be reached in 2 shimmer filled coats. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

Such a beautiful deep, rich green and that shimmer! It just glows on the nail. I have to admit that when I first put this on I wasn't completely sold on it. It's a color that's quite out of my comfort zone. But as I looked at my nails I fell in love.

I decided to try a little stamping over this and loved the results. I used Maybelline Bold Gold and Messy Mansions plate Lilly Anna 08 to create this look.

The stamping did take away some of the shimmer in the polish but it could still be seen in direct sunlight. If you read my original review of the Lilly Anna plate you will know that it got slightly damaged in shipping. I was able to bend it back for the most part but it's still not entirely smooth and that caused the little bald patches in my stamping. I don't think they are too bad though and really like this look.

I actually own quite a few more Cult Nails polishes that have yet to make it onto the blog. Even though they are no longer available they are too pretty to ignore and who knows you might find one or two in a destash sale. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Cult Nails - Blaze

Today I have for you a polish that has been in my collection for quite some time but only found it's way to my nails over the holiday season when I needed a great base for my glitter/chevron manicure. Cult Nails Blaze was released as part of their Second Anniversary collection back in 2013. For those of you who haven't heard at the end of last year, Cult Nails made the hard decision to close up shop once all inventory was sold. At the moment the shop is set to maintenance mode with a message saying they will open on January 25th. That date has come and gone and I'm not sure if they will reopen.  I actually own quite a few polishes that never made it to the blog and I will be showcasing them from time to time because they are just too pretty not to be shared.

Blaze is described as a  "Glowing gold and copper glitter"  mixed together in a clear base. This sparkly mixture seemed to dance on my fingertips.

Blaze-by-Cult-Nails

Shown here is 2 coats of Blaze layered over a thin coat of Orly Luxe plus top coat. Blaze is a little on the sheer side due to the clear base but builds up nicely. Full coverage can be achieved in 3 or 4 coats depending on how thickly you apply it.

Thankfully the sheerness didn't affect the glitter coverage. I was able to get a lot of glitter on the brush each time I pulled it out of the bottle. The glitters are so fine that getting them to cover the nail was my biggest issue, which is why up to 4 coats could be needed for full opacity. I did end up doing a little glitter dabbing on the second coat to ensure full coverage.

I really like the way Blaze looks layered over Luxe and would recommend using it on top of another color instead of on its own, just because it's easier. However, you choose to wear it it will look amazing. Don't believe me? Check out this macro shot.

Or how about this glittery chevron manicure I did for the Christmas nail art challenge? Which is still one of my top 5 favorite nail art looks from last year.

I'm sad to see Cult Nails say goodbye but I'm thankful that I got to try a few of their polishes. I have yet to use one that gave me issues. I  look forward to trying out the remaining untrieds that I own and would love to hear which polishes are your favorites. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

The 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge Day 9: Glitter

It's one of my favorite days of the Christmas Nail Art Challenge so far, Glitter!! Who doesn't love glitter right? It sparkles, it shines, and it makes you feel pretty. Well, it makes me feel like my nails are pretty.

My original intention was to do a color block manicure for today using traditional colors. But that turned into a train wreck when I realized that I started out in the wrong direction and was impatient applying my tape.  I've put that design idea on the back burner for now.

So what did I do for my glitter manicure? In the end, I went with a festive, sparkly chevron manicure. And now I'm wishing I had done both hands because I love the finished look!

Christmas-cevron-nail-art

I started off with a base of Cult Nail Blaze. 2 coats over a thin coat of Orly Luxe gave me a perfect gold base.  Once that dried I carefully applied my chevron decals from KBShimmer. There are actually 2 sizes of chevrons here but they are so close it's hard to tell. So I didn't quite get the complete look I was going for but I still love it.

Holiday-Chevron-maniure

For my accent nail, I used Color Club Perfect Molten, a soft green with silver shimmer. My red is the gorgeous Marilyn from Shimmer Polish. This glitter packed jelly is a great red color for any Christmas nail art, or if you just want to rock some sexy red nails. I topped everything off with 2 generous coats of Out the Door.

I think this is my favorite manicure of the challenge so far, but I do have a fun idea in mind for the next prompt, ugly Christmas sweater. Fingers crossed I can pull it off. While I go work on that, why don't you check out the other glitter manicures from today and I'll see you back here on Friday. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Twin Blog Post: Tiger Print

Hi everyone, I'm back from my short break with a special post for you today. It's time for the monthly twin blog post challenge. This time around is a little different. Since we have an odd number of members in the Facebook group I was teamed up with not one but two fabulous bloggers. I guess you could call this a triplet blog post.

This months theme is Animal Print. Hannah from The Dalai Lamas Nails, Tina from  Light of the Moon Nails and I were given Tiger Print. We all decided to go a non-traditional route as far as colors go and to not do exact matches of each other. I can't wait to see what they came up with!

It took me a bit to decide on my final concept for this manicure. The ideas that kept popping into my head were far beyond my meager nail art skills. I also wasn't sure if I wanted to do something really bright or keep it on the subtle side. I opted to land somewhere in between but leaning more towards the subtle.

Tiger-Stripe-Nail-Art-Non-Traditional

I used Cult Nails Faded for my base color. This is by far my favorite grey polish. My original idea was to go with only the silver stripes and have a blinged out tiger but I worried that it wouldn't photograph well. I was hoping for a lighter hand with the blue to have it look like a shadow under the silver but as you can see that didn't work out as planned. I do like how this turned out though.

Would you have guessed it was Tiger Print if I hadn't told you? After doing this manicure I've got the itch to try it with traditional colors too. I might have to make a post about that in the near future. Now, how about we take a look at with the other ladies have come up with for this month.

The Get Lucky Nail Art Challenge: Day 4 Freestyle

Happy St. Patricks Day! It's the last day of the Get Lucky Nail Art Challenge and today's theme is Freestyle. I decided to go with something very simple given since I've had such a busy week.

For this mani I used 1 coat of Cult Nails Hypnotize Me over 1 coat of Carpe Noctem Green Goddess. The accent nail is Maybelline Bold Gold stamped with Sinful colors Last Chance and Bundle Monster Plate Bm03

Thanks for sticking with me through this rushed challenge. I hope you enjoyed the manicures. Now let's see what everyone else came up with for today.

Cult Nails - Angel Whispers

Today I have the sparkly magical goodness that is Cult Nails Angel Whispers to share with you. Angel Whispers is a soft, pastel pink with micro shimmer from the Passionate Dreams Collection.

Cult-Nails-Angel-Whispers-Passionate-Dreams-Collection-Lustrous-Lacquer

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this covered. I was expecting a sheer polish that would take at least 3 coats if not more for good coverage. The polish was thicker than I'm used to working with and I only needed 2 coats for this manicure to reach full opacity. The thickness may be a result of the extremely cold temperatures during shipping that many of us are dealing with this winter. It wasn't so thick that the polish was unusable or difficult to work with, however. And I did let it warm up for 3 days before using it.

Cult-Nails-Angel-Whispers-Passionate-Dreams-Collection-Lustrous-Lacquer

The texture when dry reminded me of a mild Zoya Pixie Dust. With a layer of topcoat, Angel Whispers was transformed to a feeling of softness that reminded me of a lush baby blanket that I brought my daughter home in. I don't know about you but I love when a polish reminds me of an event in my life or sparks an emotion.

I really love how this macro shot turned out. I think it highlights how delicate Angel Whispers is and how perfectly it is named. It also reminds me a little of cotton candy. Anyone else craving something sweet now?

If you'd like to pick up your own bottle of Angel Whispers they are available at Cult Nails. And while you're there check out the new rewards/referral program that started this week along with their $3 sale polishes. Happy Polishing Everyone!

Cult Nails - Faded

Hey there everyone. I know this post is a day late but please forgive me. I woke up yesterday with the worlds worst migraine and couldn't bear to be upright let alone look at a computer screen. Today's post is going to be a quick one on Cult Nails Faded.

Faded was originally offered in the Dance All Night Collection for summer 2013. It's the perfect neutral grey color with its cool slightly blue toned hue.

Cult-Nails-Faded-Lustrous-Lacquer

The application was smooth. My first coat was pretty thin so I had some slight streaks but everything evened out nicely, reaching full opacity with 2 coats.

Cult-Nails-Faded-Lustrous-Lacquer

Faded dries to a semi-gloss finish and is an amazing base for nail art, although I quite like it on its own. Cult Nail polishes retail for $12 and can be purchased here.

I hope you enjoyed this quick and simple post. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Cult Nails Iconic

Today I'd like to share with you a polish that I've had in my collection for quite some time but just got around to using. Cult Nails Iconic is a gorgeous berry red polish with golden shimmer and red glass flecks. Why I waited so long to use this beauty is beyond me. This polish was not only great for the wintry season but gave me a much needed pick me up.

Cult-Nails-Iconic

Shown here I have 2 coats of Iconic plus top coat. Iconic is still available from Cult Nails if you'd like to purchase it. It can be found in their store and retails for $12.00. I personally think this is one color everyone should have in their collection. Its a great deep red polish with so much character even my boss commented on.

Cult-Nails-Iconic

As I looked at my nails I was reminded of those mulberry candles that you used to be able to find everywhere from the grocery store to the gas station. And it brought me back to my high school days when my best friends and I all worked at the same grocery store and stocked those candles while laughing about whatever situation we had found ourselves in that week. I couldn't help but smile every time I looked down.

Does this polish need to be added to your collection? Or have you ever worn a polish that brought back great memories from your childhood? Id love to hear about them. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

He picks my Polish-September Challenge

Today I have a very quick NOTD post for you. As some of you may have read, some bloggers are doing a series called #hepicksmypolish where the boyfriend or husband picks the nail polish colors used for that manicure. I enlisted my 7 yr old son to help with this. He was not overly enthused, to say the least, but did it anyway.

The polishes he chose for me are Cult Nails Manipulative and Girly Bits Crunchy Leaves. Two indie polishes that I had yet to use so I was able to knock out 2 untrieds with this also. Double score!

Manipulative is a robins egg blue with iridescent shimmer while Crunchy Leaves is brown, red and, black glitters in a dark grey base. Here I show two coats of each plus top coat.

Girly Bits Crunchy Leaves
The photo was taken in direct sunlight
No matter how hard I tried my camera just wouldn't pick up the shimmer in Manipulative. Even when taking photos in natural light like in the next picture.

For this manicure, I also wanted to try out the two accent nails look. I'm not sure I would pair these colors together again. Maybe if there was a little less red in Crunchy leaves or if Manipulative was a slightly deeper blue I would like them together more. All in all, it's not a horrible combination though. I wonder if I can get my 9 yr old son to pick colors for me next time?

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out the experiences bloggers have had with this challenge.
