Heather's Hues You've Got to be Shiftin' Me part deux

Welcome to Heather's Hues week on the blog! Almost a year ago I reviewed the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me collection a very opaque super shifty collection of polishes. I liked that collection so much that when the second installment was offered I knew I needed wanted to get them. I have to say that purchasing these was a very good idea. This four color collection is equally as beautiful as it's predecessor and is just as opaque.

Just like the first collection I've shown each color on 4 nails and stamped on one nail using creative shop plate 14 over a black base to show just how opaque and versatile these polishes are.

Spangle

A green to gold shifting multi-chrome polish with flashes of orange

Color: A green to gold shifting multi-chrome polish with flashes of orange.

Application: Spangle is a very opaque nail polish with even application. It does dry with a few brushstrokes but my camera seems to have magnified them as they were less visible to the naked eye. Shown here as one coat plus top coat.

Coruscate

A purple to blue shifting multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of magenta and orange.

Color: A purple to blue shifting multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of magenta and orange.

Application: Very opaque nail polish but I had a slight issue with dragging when using multiple strokes on the same nail. The application wasn't quite as even as spangle but was still pretty easy to work with. Shown here as one coat plus top coat. Coruscate does dry with a few brushstrokes but there are minimal.

Lustre

A purple to gold multi-chrome nail polish with hints of orange.

Color: A purple to gold multi-chrome nail polish with hints of orange.

Application: Smooth even formula with a nice application. Once again this polish is extremely opaque. Shown as one coat plus top coat. This polish does dry with a few brushstrokes and the lighter shade makes them more obvious than with the other colors in the collection.

Blaze

A magenta to purple shifting multi-chrome with flashes of orange and gold.

Color: A magenta to purple shifting multi-chrome with flashes of orange and gold.

Application: Just like this rest of this collection Blaze is very opaque with a nice even formula. Shown here as one coat plus top coat.

At this time the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me part Deux collection is not available and when I asked Heather she had no immediate plans to bring it back to the shop but did not rule out the possibility of a return down the road. Do you have a favorite from this collection? I'll be back on Thursday to bring you the third and final installment in the You've got to be Shiftin' Me series. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sinful Colors 2018 Walgreen's Exclusive Core Line Color Additions

As many of you know I am a big fan of Sinful Colors nail polish. They offer a wide variety of finishes and colors, most of the time the formula is great and, you can't really beat the price. When I heard they were adding 10 new colors to the core line in 2018 I was excited, not only for the new colors but for the hunt it would take to find them.

You may have noticed the new collections popping up in fewer and fewer places lately which makes finding them a challenge at times. But not to fear after a month of looking and multiple stores searched I have found all 10 colors. I won't be sharing all 10 with you today, just the 4 that are exclusive to Walgreens.

*Also on a side note, my phone case ended up reflecting in my macro shot of Mixed Signals causing the polish to have a pink tint to it. There is no pink tint in this polish, it was just so shiny every effort I made to photograph it showed a reflection*

Holla At Ya Buoy

Sky blue creme nail polish 2018 core line color addition exclusive to walgreens

Color: A deep sky blue creme nail polish.

Application: The formula is nice with a good opacity and smooth, even coverage. I was almost able to get full opacity after one coat. Shown here is two coats plus topcoat.

Holla At Ya Buoy ended up drying a little lighter than I was expecting which I actually really like. It's a pretty shade of blue that I can see myself wearing alone or using as a base for nail art. I do have a suspicion that it will be a stainer though so I recommend using a good base coat or even doubling up on your base coat to avoid any issues.

Shock Candy

Dusty lilac purple creme nail polish 2018 core line color addition exclusive for walgreens

Color: Dusty lilac purple creme nail polish.

Application: A very smooth formula that self-levels and is very opaque. I only had a slight VNL after one coat. Shown as 2 coats plus topcoat. This polish dries to a very high shine and smooth finish that's similar to a glossy top coat.

Shock Candy dries just a tad darker than what you see in the bottle and I love it. It a nice neutral color but isn't boring. Do you ever put on a polish and immediately get a nail art idea? Well, that's what happened to me to moment this dried on my nails.  I love it when that happens. I won't be sharing the nail art today but I will soon so make sure you come back for that.

Mixed Signals

Silver metallic foil nail polish 2018 core line addition color exclusive for Walgreens

Color: Silver metallic foil nail polish.

Application: The formula for Mixed Signals is thinner than the rest and applied semi sheerly on the first coat. It does build up nicely and I was able to get full opacity after two coats. Shown as two coats plus top coat.

This color reminds me of Sally Hansen's Celeb City or Zoya's Trixi but with larger particles. Although this looks textured it does dry to a smooth finish. Mixed Signals does suffer from a few brushstrokes which was expected since it is a foil finish. I decided to test a theory during application to see if I could avoid them. On my ring finger, instead of painting on the second coat like normal I applied it with a sponge. It seemed to work but the textured look of the polish made it hard to tell for sure. You can be sure I'll be testing the theory again and will share my results.

Sucker Punch

Strawberry red nail polish with magenta shimmer 2018 core line color addition exclusive for Walgreens

Color: Strawberry red nail polish with magenta shimmer.

Application: This one was surprisingly opaque on the first coat with only a slight VNL left after one coat. The formula is great with a smooth easy application and a nice ability to build opacity. Shown as two coats plus top coat.

This is a beautiful color that I really liked with my skin tone. The shimmer adds a little something extra and I like that it's not a true deep red. In some lighting, this color can lean a little more to the pink side than red which makes it a unique color for my collection.

What do you think of the new colors? Are there any that have made your must-have list? My favorites are Shock Candy and Sucker Punch. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Untried A-Z Challenge Letter D

It's the 4th week of the Untried A-Z Challenge and that means it's time for the letter D!

I've chosen to share another mainstream polish with you again today but have put the Sally Hansens away for awhile. This week I'm sharing Sinful Colors Daredevil a polish I've owned since 2015 when it was released in with Back to School, A Class Act collection.

Bright pink nail polish with iridescent shimmer

Daredevil is a bright pink nail polish with pale blue iridescent shimmer. And when I say it's bright I mean it's BRIGHT! Perfect for a hot summer day or when you just need a pick me up from the dark vampy colors we tend to wear during the winter months.

The formula on this was is nice with even coverage during application. I was expecting to get a few streaks since the polish looked so thin inside the bottle. Thankfully there were no issues with pooling at my cuticles but this polish is on the thin side. I had quite the VNL after 1 coat. Daredevil builds up nicely and I was able to reach full opacity with only two coats. Shown here is two coats plus top coat.

What do you think of Daredevil? Are you a fan of wearing bright nail polishes? Now let's see what other polishes people have chosen for their letter D. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Bee's Knees Lacquer -Which Witch Trial?

Bee's Knees Lacquer hit the indie scene with a splash last year and of course, I had to see for myself what all the buzz was about. I got 3 polishes in my first purchase and from what I've seen I'll be ordering more soon. I'll be sharing Which Witch Trial?  from the Witch, Please collection with you today.

Brown to gray nail polish with red flakes and golden shimmer

At first glance, Which Witch Trial? looks like a milk Chocolate polish with red micro flakes but this polish is so complex that a second look shows you a charcoal gray base with golden shimmer.

Brown to gray nail polish with red flakes and golden shimmer

The application for Which Witch Trial? is amazing. It has a smooth formula with even coverage. While it's pretty opaque I did need 2 coats to reach full opacity. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

Brown to gray nail polish with red flakes and golden shimmer

I'm so glad that I picked this one up when I first heard of the brand. It's a very unique polish for my collection and one I can see myself wearing no matter what the season. Although I think it's a great color for those long winter months. Have you tried Bee's Knees Lacquer yet or have any on your wish list? Let me know in the comments and as always, Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Love nail art for Valentines Day

I'm back with another nail art look for Valentines Day and once again I used a few nail polishes from Sally Hansen that I picked up on clearance. As some of you may have noticed Sally Hansen has had redone their displays and colors in stores clearing out a ton of colors. I have taken full advantage of this and added more to my collection than I'd like to admit. Because of my recent purchases and procrastination at putting them away, I've found myself reaching for them when it's time to paint my nails. Hence all the Sally Hansen posts lately. I will get back to posting other brands soon I promise. Now for today's nail art.

For this color combination, I was inspired by one of my fiance's friends. She sent me a message asking about pink and gray polishes that went well together. Her daughter is starting to get into nails and nail art which I think is really cool. I also liked the idea of pairing pink and gray together as a semi non-traditional valentines look.

Pink Blink is a bubblegum pink polish that I used as the base color on my ring finger. My main manicure color is Seize the Gray, a lighter gray than I had envisioned but has a great formula and nice opacity.

For my ring finger, I used What's Up Nails Vinyl written with love (wv215) and then painted Seize the Gray over it. The middle finger was done using What's Up Nail Vinyl Profiles (wv219) and Pink Blink. Both sets of Vinyls are still available at What's Up Nails if you'd like to get some for yourself.

I found that this was a quick and easy way to create my Valentines look and I like the color combo. I'm so glad it was suggested to me. Have you used vinyls before? Where is your favorite place to get them? I hope you have a lovely Valentines Day, Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Dark and Vampy Valentines Day Manicure

It's the beginning of February and that means it's time for Valentine's nail art looks. I missed out on doing any last year and I want to make up for it this year. Don't worry I won't be dedicating the entire month to Valentines I only have 2 looks to share with you. The first one is a needle drag look that has subtle valentines feel to it that I'm kind of proud of.

For years I have attempted the needle drag technique without success. I must have a heavy hand because no matter how lightly I tried to be with my dotting tool I ended up putting gauges in my polish instead of beautiful swirling designs. That was until I tried using a nail art brush instead of my dotting tool. A little tip, you want to use a striping brush with long bristles and the lightest amount of pressure possible.

The polishes I used I recently picked up on clearance from Target. Who doesn't love a bargain right! My main color is Ruby Do from the 2017 Berry Chic Collection. I accented it with Clean Slate which is part of the 2016 fall collection. Both polishes are extremely opaque and have great formulas. To create my hearts I used a medium sized dotting tool and a few drops of Ruby Do. The brush in the complete salon manicure line is great for painting my nails but it too big when it comes to wanting small drops of polish. You'll want to move quickly when doing the needle drag technique so that your polish doesn't have time to dry. I had my dotting tool ready to go before adding my second coat of clean slate which I think was also part of why I was able to do this successfully. A quick swipe with my striping brush through the polish and I had my heart pattern.

I'm super excited to finally get this technique to work and can't wait to try it out with other colors and designs. Have you had success with this technique? Do you have any other tips or tricks? I hope you enjoyed this simple Valentines nail art look. I'll be back with another look soon until then, Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Untired A-Z Challenge Letter C

It's time once again for the Untried A-Z Challenge, this time around is the letter C. I hope you've been enjoying this challenge as much as I have. It's been great to see so many people join in but there is always room for more. Feel free to check out the event on facebook and see if it will work for you.

I'm sharing another polish from Sally Hansen but this time from the Extreme Wear line. I know I know I should be mixing it up with my polish brands but if you remember from my 2018 goals post, one of my goals is to work through my untried polishes with a focus on the mainstreams. Don't worry I'll get back around to some indies polishes soon. But in the meantime let's take a look at Sally Hansen Coin Flip.

Pale Bronze metallic nail polish with golden shimmer

Coin Flip is a pale bronze metallic polish with a golden shimmer. I must have had a thing for metallic golden bronze polishes back in 2014 when I went on a polish purchasing spree because I have a lot of them in my helmer. As proven by my letter B post from a few weeks ago.

Pale bronze metallic nail polish with golden shimmer

The application of Coin Flip was typical. I had smooth and even application but this polish is a bit sheer on the first coat. Thankfully this polish builds up nicely and full opacity can be reached after two coats. Unfortunately, like most metallic polishes this one suffers from brushstrokes. I recently had a tip shared with me on how to avoid the brushstrokes and I'd like to pass it along to you. The secret is to sponge on the second layer for a more even surface. I haven't tried it yet but you can bet I will the next time I wear a shimmer or metallic finish nail polish.

Pale bronze metallic nail polish with golden shimmer

This is a color that I really like but not a polish I will probably wear again. I have so many colors like this in my collection that I need to give them all a chance.Plus I typically can get a lot of the polishes from this line to work for stamping but I think this one is too sheer to work for that. Now that I've shown you my C polish let's see what other people have chosen. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
