JReine - The Galaxy Rocks

I don't know about you but I am a huge fan of the Polish Pickup. Where else can you find the opportunity to buy from so many brands in one place? Brands that are old favorites and new brands at the same time. One of the New Brands for me is JReine back in April for the Across the Universe theme with a polish called the Galaxy Rocks.

Heather's Hues You've Got to be Shiftin' Me Encore Duo

Welcome back to Heather's Hues week! This time I'm bringing you the final installment of the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me series. The Encore Duo consists of two shifty and opaque polishes. If you missed the first two installments not to worry, I've got you covered. You can follow these links to see my reviews of the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me collection and the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me Collection part deux. Just like those previous posts I've shown this duo on four full fingers and then stamped on one nail with creative shop plate 14 over a black base.

Glow

An aqua to green shifting multi-chrome nail polish

Color: An aqua to green shifting multi-chrome nail polish.

Application: Smooth application with an even coverage and very opaque. Shown as one coat plus top coat. Out of the entire series, this polish has the most subtle shift. Sadly the shift is more evident in my photos than I could actually see on my nails.

Dazzle

A purple to pink multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of gold and green.

Color: A purple to pink multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of gold and green.

Application: Smooth even application with a high opacity. Shown as one coat plus top coat. Dazzle does dry with a few brushstrokes but they are minimal and the color shift makes them less evident to the naked eye.

That rounds out the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me series of polishes from Heather's Hues. Just like part deux at the time of this post, the encore duo is not currently available for purchase and there are no immediate plans to bring it back to the shop. That being said I hope you still enjoyed this duo. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Heather's Hues You've Got to be Shiftin' Me part deux

Welcome to Heather's Hues week on the blog! Almost a year ago I reviewed the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me collection a very opaque super shifty collection of polishes. I liked that collection so much that when the second installment was offered I knew I needed wanted to get them. I have to say that purchasing these was a very good idea. This four color collection is equally as beautiful as it's predecessor and is just as opaque.

Just like the first collection I've shown each color on 4 nails and stamped on one nail using creative shop plate 14 over a black base to show just how opaque and versatile these polishes are.

Spangle

A green to gold shifting multi-chrome polish with flashes of orange

Color: A green to gold shifting multi-chrome polish with flashes of orange.

Application: Spangle is a very opaque nail polish with even application. It does dry with a few brushstrokes but my camera seems to have magnified them as they were less visible to the naked eye. Shown here as one coat plus top coat.

Coruscate

A purple to blue shifting multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of magenta and orange.

Color: A purple to blue shifting multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of magenta and orange.

Application: Very opaque nail polish but I had a slight issue with dragging when using multiple strokes on the same nail. The application wasn't quite as even as spangle but was still pretty easy to work with. Shown here as one coat plus top coat. Coruscate does dry with a few brushstrokes but there are minimal.

A purple to blue shifting multi-chrome nail polish with flashes of magenta and orange.

Lustre

A purple to gold multi-chrome nail polish with hints of orange.

Color: A purple to gold multi-chrome nail polish with hints of orange.

Application: Smooth even formula with a nice application. Once again this polish is extremely opaque. Shown as one coat plus top coat. This polish does dry with a few brushstrokes and the lighter shade makes them more obvious than with the other colors in the collection.

Blaze

A magenta to purple shifting multi-chrome with flashes of orange and gold.

Color: A magenta to purple shifting multi-chrome with flashes of orange and gold.

Application: Just like this rest of this collection Blaze is very opaque with a nice even formula. Shown here as one coat plus top coat.

At this time the You've Got to be Shiftin' Me part Deux collection is not available and when I asked Heather she had no immediate plans to bring it back to the shop but did not rule out the possibility of a return down the road. Do you have a favorite from this collection? I'll be back on Thursday to bring you the third and final installment in the You've got to be Shiftin' Me series. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Literary Lacquers - Alice in Lacquerland Collection

Today I have the Alice in Lacquerland Collection from Literary Lacquers and I am so excited to share it with you! This long-awaited collection is filled with fun and sparkle just like the story that inspired it. Get ready to set your alarms because this collection releases today Dec 26th at noon mt and I'm sure it's one you won't want to miss.

This will be a long post with a ton of pictures! I have 6 collection polishes and 1 gift with purchase to share so let's get some particulars out of the way right now. Each polish is shown as 2 coats plus topcoat and I photographed them all in my lightbox using daylight LED bulbs. Let's jump right in shall we.

Tulgey Wood

Rich-caramel-brown-linear-holographic-nail-polish

Color: A rich caramel brown linear holographic nail polish with copper and gold glass flecks.

Application: Tulgey Wood has a smooth formula with even coverage. I was surprised at how opaque this is. I only had a slight VNL after 1 coat. This polish builds up nicely to a perfect opacity after 2 coats.

Six Impossible Things

Burnt-orange-scattered-holographic-nail-polish

Color: A scattered holographic glitter nail polish in a burnt orange base with gold and copper micro glitters. This color reminds me of the bittersweet plant that used to grow in my yard as a child.

Application: The formula for this one is a bit thin on the first coat and can be patchy if applied thinly. Six Impossible Things builds up nicely after 2 coats but still shows a slight VNL that's more evident in my photos than when looking with the naked eye.

Grin Without a Cat

Purple-multi-chrome-nail-polish

Color: Purple multi-chrome polish that shifts from purple to gold to pink with magenta shimmer and microglitter. This one doesn't have an obvious color shift to it which makes it unique for multi-chrome polishes. At first glance, I actually thought it was a shimmer finish because I was only getting a light to dark purple shift until I moved my hand around. Then I was able to get the hints of gold to appear.

Application: This polish went on a bit uneven for me on the first coat and wanted to pull away at my tips. I'm not entirely sure if this was because of the polish itself or the new sticky base coat that I'm trying out. As you can see I was left with a smooth even finish after 2 coats but there is still some shrinkage at the tips.

The Golden Afternoon

Yellow-Gold-Scattered-holographic-nail-polish

Color: Yellow gold scattered holographic nail polish with a hint of linear holo thrown in.

Application: Smooth and even application with the first coat being quite sheer. The Golden Afternoon does build up quite nicely to full opacity with two coats.

Curiouser and Curiouser!

Sky-Blue-Scattered-holographic-nail-polish

Color: Sky blue scattered holographic nail polish.

Application: Smooth formula and very opaque. I had 99% full coverage after one medium think coat. Builds up quite nicely to complete opacity after two coats.

Always Tea Time

Medium-pink-linear-holographic-nail-polish-with-scattered-holographic-glass-flecks

Color: Medium pink linear holographic nail polish with scattered holographic glass flecks.

Application: Smooth and even application and a very opaque polish. I would almost consider this a one coater. Builds up to a perfect opacity after two coats.

Be What You Would Seem to Be

Pale-purple-scattered-holographic-nail-polish

Color: Pale purple polish with scattered holographic glitter with a hint of linear holo.

Application: Even application but a bit sheer on the first coat. Builds up nice and smoothly for full opacity after two coats.

Be What You Would Seem to Be if a gift with purchase polish available Dec 26th through January 5th with a $48 purchase. Six impossible things will be priced at $10 while the rest of the collection is $12.  As mentioned above this collection releases today (Dec 26th) at noon mountain time.

Literary Lacquers -Ocean at the End of the Lane trio

Today I have for you a gorgeous trio releasing to the core line of colors on June 23rd from Literary Lacquers. The Ocean at the End of the Lane Trio which is inspired by the book of the same name is sure to have something for everyone whether you like matte polishes, multi-chromes, glass fleck or holographic finish.

Miner's Gift is described as a blue/purple multi-chrome with holographic micro flakes. When I looked at the bottle my first impression was a deep dark blurple with gold micro glitters.

Inspired by the character of the opal miner. The death of the miner is the catalyst for the awakening/actions of Skarthach. His offhandedly adult means of compensating for the loss of the one thing that gave the boy comfort is counter-balanced by Lettie’s selfless, childish (as in done by a child – not as in immature) and steadfast determination to make things right for her friends. As such, the Miner (and other adults – Hempstocks excluded) is the initial counter character to Lettie.

“He was a South African, although he had made his money mining for opals in Australia. He gave my sister and me an opal each, a rough black rock with green-blue-red fire in it. My sister liked him for this, and treasured her opal stone. I could not forgive him for the death of my kitten.” p. 14

The formula for Miner's Gift was a bit thicker than I'm used to but not to the point that it was difficult to work with. Because my nails are still recovering from my foray into builder gel nails and have a VERY distinct ridge I had a small issue with bald spots on the first coat. Everything built up nicely and you can barely see the ridge after the coat. So I guess what I'm saying is that even if your nails are in rough shape this polish will make them look fabulous. And if you don't have a distinct ridge like I do you won't have any issues with application. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat. Miner's Gift dries to a smooth sparkly finish.

Swaying Grayly is described as matte light grey polish packed with silver flakes and glass fleck. My first impression after looking at the bottle was a medium grey polish with silver and gold flecks.

Designed with Adrienne Nguyen

Inspired by the persistent description of Ursula Monkton in her true form as Skarthach of the Keep as represented by tattered grey canvas.

“It was my old bedroom, but it wasn’t. Not anymore. There was the little yellow handbasin, just my size, and the walls were still robin’s-egg blue, as they had been when it was mine. But now strips of cloth hung from the ceiling, gray, ragged cloth strips, like bandages, some only a foot long, others dangling almost all the way to the floor. The window was open and the wind rustled and pushed them, so they swayed, grayly, and it seemed as if perhaps the room was moving, like a tent or a ship at sea."

Swaying Grayly has a smooth even application and a flawless formula. each coat was packed with sparkle. Shown here as 2 coats without top coat and then the addition of a glossy top coat. Dries to a smooth finish with zero texture from the flecks.

Lettie's Ocean is described as a soft turquoise holo with holo sparkle. My first impression after looking at the bottle was a pale turquoise with scattered holographic glitters and a subtle hint of linear holo.

Designed with Carolyn Chambers

Lettie is an eleven-year-old girl who just may have very well been eleven for a very long time.

"Lettie Hempstock was made of silken sheets the color of ice, filled with tiny flickering candle flames, a hundred hundred candle flames. Could there be candle flames burning under the water? There could. I knew that, when I was in the ocean, and I even knew how. I understood it just as I understood Dark Matter, the material of the universe that makes up everything that must be there but we cannot find. I found myself thinking of an ocean running beneath the whole universe, like the dark seawater that laps beneath the wooden boards of an old pier: an ocean that stretches from forever to forever and is still small enough to fit inside a bucket, if you have Old Mrs. Hempstock to help you get it in there, and you ask nicely."

Lettie's Ocean has a smooth formula with even application. I was expecting a sheer polish that required 3 coats or more but full opacity is reached after 2 coats. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat. Dries to a smooth even finish.

I honestly don't have a favorite from the trio. I like the deep rich color contrasting with the holographic sparkle of Miner's Gift, The layered flecks in Swaying Grayly and the holographic flash in Lettie's Ocean. Can you pick a favorite? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
