Laffy Taffy Pink Polish

Today's blog post is brought to you by someone very special to me. My daughter who everyone calls my mini-me was given her very own set of nail polish from her grandparents for Christmas. Now if you've been following my FB page for a long time you may remember a few pictures I posted about the mani's she's had me do for her. She has her very own style when it comes to polish and knows specifics on what she wants me to paint. So I decided to let her do a guest post on my blog.

Everything coming up will be in her own words and she even painted her nails all on her own this time. I only had to help with clean up on 2 nails. That was a proud mommy moment for this polish lover since she is only 5 yrs. old.

Laffy Taffy Pink

This polish looks cute. It's my favorite color. It also looks good with a purple polish like I have on my toes. I applied one coat of polish. My mommy had to help me clean up a little. I like to wear this polish while I drink Chocolate milk. The strawberry scent smelled really good!

I guess to a 5-year-old having pretty nails while drinking chocolate milk is pretty important. I think she may be paying more attention to me when I blog that I realized because she remembered to tell me how many coats she used. I love that we can spend time together painting our nails and talking about her day. I hope it's something that we can continue to do as she gets older, even into those "my mom embarrasses me no matter what she does" years.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Happy Polishing!

Guest Post Steph from At Peace With Polish

Hello Everyone. Today I have a fun post from Steph from At Peace with Polish that brought a smile to my face. I hope you enjoy it and a big thanks to Steph for letting me share her story.

One time a fairly new coworker sarcastically asked me if I changed my nails every day to match my outfit. I laughed because I sure did have a matching outfit and mani every time I saw her. I replied "Almost!" and I did not feel bothered by her sassy approach in the least. I think that was one of the many times I felt "at peace!"
My name is Stephanie Galvan, my blog is called At Peace with Polish, and I am super addicted to painting my nails. Well, just about anyone's nails! I found a comfort zone with this hobby, and that's what I want to share with you today.

Katie invited bloggers to share how the polish-hoarding adventure began for us. I was thinking, my story is sooo simple: a friend of mine was always sporting a stunning set of natural nails that she kept glazed with a shade called "Watermelon." I knew I was hooked, however, I couldn't run to the salon every two weeks on my wedding-planning budget like she could. Well lots of people must do this at home, I thought. After all, I grew up with a little drawer of polish of my own (funny thing is that I never liked colors on my nails as a young girl, only on my toes) and like any woman I can DIY! I started searching and ran into my first nail art blog, Chalkboard Nails. What an inspiring, stunning eye-opening, crafty woman Sarah Waite is!
Suddenly my story doesn't seem so simple and boring to me anymore. My wedding planning stress that was bombarding my life was now manageable with something else to focus on. The first color I remember falling head over heels for was Sally Hansen's Lacey Lilac. I do adore purple!! Somehow I found Pretty & Polished and, in awe of Chelsea, purchased Jawbreaker, Galax-E, and Martian Salad. Best purchase ever? Possibly!!! I became a promoter and addict of Indie polish. What a cunning, amazing idea! What a unique, self-expressive, passionate community I had found!
Amidst all of the beginner tape-manis, delving through blog after blog, and finding and purchasing more Indie brands I realized that I had found a way to control and enjoy a new aspect of myself. I was actually pretty good, I thought, and I was enjoying myself. After a stressful day at a horrific job and with a mess of wedding planning all on my own ahead of me, I was "At Peace with Polish."

I am so happy with this community! I love the ladies: the blogs, the support, and oh my goodness the unique creations! I'm thankful for my new friends galore as well as the women who have asked me to review their products. I love the blogs and I am so thankful for you all. Thank you, Katie, for asking me to do a little piece for your blog so that I may express my gratitude and love for this crazy lacquer-obsessed world of ours.

Guest Post Carina from carinaeletoile.com

Today's guest post is from Carina. I hope you all enjoy her story as much as I did. I have to admit it brought back a little nostalgia from my childhood and made me smile.
I've always had a love for nail polish, ever since I could remember. My mother used to have a bottle of an Avon red and I was the one who drained that bottle dry. How? Well, when I was 7 or 8, I wanted to paint my nails than do homework. I'd painstakingly take scotch tape, put it on my nail, trace my nail bed and then cut the tape to have my own interpretation of a press-on nail…it was a bit flimsy. Yes, I did this for all ten fingers! Then I'd paint my nails with my mom's Avon nail polish. Let's just say that for a while, my 'nails' were doing better than my grades.

Fast forward to 1994. Chanel Vamp, aka Rouge Noir. Two bottles purchased. Then Very Vamp. Then Metallic Vamp. A YSL that was their answer to Chanel's Vamp. Some original Urban Decay polishes – Gash and Oil Slick. A few OPIs – Samoan Sand and Cotton Candy.

1998 – Chanel discontinues Vamp. My heart was broken. So broken that I threw away ALL my nail polishes and vowed to not purchase any more.

I didn't…until Fall 2008. Hello, OPI France Collection. Something about that collection called to me; making me have to have it. I purchased their India and Spain Collections. It all went from there.

Chanel, YSL, butterLondon, Essie, OPI, Color Club, Misa, Nubar, Barielle, BB Couture, Tom Ford…the list goes on and no brand that I can get my grubby paws on will ever be safe.

If you're curious about my collection, visit my stash list on my blog.

Long story short – Avon started me on nail polish and Chanel was my first high end polish.

Guest Post Hannah from The Dalai Lama's Nails

Today on the blog Hannah from The Dalai  Lama's Nails shares with us how she got started in Nail Art.

I don't know how I found it, but nearly two years ago I found myself watching a water marbling tutorial on YouTube. I sat transfixed, watching as drops of polish were gently placed in concentric circles on the surface of a cup of water - and somehow that turned into this amazing, organic, swirling manicure! Immediately I set to work gathering supplies, and many hours later I had created my very first nail art. Not too long after that, I created The Dalai Lama's Nails as a way to keep track of my burgeoning and quickly growing love of all things nail art! This may seem silly, but for me, nail art is almost meditative. It requires huge amounts of concentration and stillness - and after all the hard work that goes into creating a look, it is quickly swept away with one swipe of acetone.

I still struggle with water marbles, to be honest! After that first foray into water marbling, I have only tried it a few other times - there are so many styles and techniques to try, and I never get bored! Anyways, since this guest post is all about my intro to nail art, I figured I'd dig into my roots and do a water marble. These are all Sally Hansen polishes Jungle Gem, Pacific Blue, Mint Sorbet, and Black Out.

Thanks so much to Katie for hosting this awesome series!

Thanks, Hannah for allowing me to share your story. I know I've found myself watching in awe at some of the water marbling videos. Wondering how they make it look so easy. I love the way this water marble turned out and it makes me want to give it another try.

Guest Post Jenni from Nail Art Novice

Today  Jenni from Nail Art Novice tell us about how she got started with nail Polish and Nail art. A big thanks for sharing your story with us and allowing me to have it on my blog.
I never really grew up around polish-my Mum never wore any-so I was never hooked on it when I was younger. For a while during my teens (and my semi-goth phase) I wore it occasionally, and nearly always in some combination of black, bright orange and bright green because they were pretty much the only colours I owned.
When I was at uni I gained a few more-mostly Stargazers or Barry Ms-and not in a massive array of colours-I had one blue, one red etc. It wasn't until my final year of uni that I realised you could do so much more with polish than just put a crackle coat on top of it. I started following a few nail blogs and was amazed by the possibilities, but also convinced that I would never be able to do anything like that on my nails-it all looked far too complicated! Through these blogs I discovered indies too, and ordered my first ones-two Emily de Mollys from when she was still a teeny Etsy shop!
I started trying not to repeat a mani if I could help it and bought some new colours to play around with, and also decided to keep a photo record to ensure that I did something different each time. I decided to turn this into a blog because I wanted to share those pictures in a way that didn't mean I was spamming my friends on Facebook (who didn't seem to appreciate them anyway!), and because I had some experience blogging on another site I just set it up and went for it in January of this year! I never really expected to get any followers so I'm amazed and flattered that I have as many as I do. I'm really glad I did decide to blog-there's such a wonderful community in the nail/beauty blogging world and I've (virtually) met some fabulous ladies from it. I've also got my best mate involved too!

I've tried out so many things that I never would have thought I'd have been able to do only a year ago and have really enjoyed learning as I go. I really love nail art and it's very rare now that I have naked nails, and even rarer that I just wear a plain colour across all of them with nothing extra added on!

It's been a gradual journey from Tomboy with all black nails to polish addict, but I reckon I'm definitely there now-I've more than doubled my collection since I started my blog 6 months ago, and it's still growing, oops!

Guest Post Jessica from Be Happy Buy Polish

Today is the third installment of my "How it all got started" series. Jessica the force behind Be Happy Buy Polish shares her story with us.  Enjoy!

Hi everyone! I'm happy to be guest-posting on Lustrous Lacquer today. I remember always being fascinated by my mom's nails when I was a kid - she never had polish on them, but she had long, beautiful nails that she would sit and file at the end of the day. I remember thinking, "How does she keep them so beautiful?" I had awful nails when I was a kid and even into my teen years - I would bite my nails, rip hangnails off - yup, they were a mess! It wasn't until my later teen years when I started seeing one of my older sister's nails, and how she kept them polished and pretty and how much I wanted to emulate her.

Over the years, I would buy a bottle of polish here and there, but it was never "a thing" for me. It wasn't until last year that I really started to get into nail polish obsessively. I'm not sure why it was all of a sudden, but it sort of was! I guess I started opening my eyes to all the beautiful polish colors when I went into the stores, and I started to need them all! LOL

About end of February/beginning of March this year, I started to read nail bloggers' websites, and seeing all these cool designs that they would create with polish. I started to play around with my own nail polish, and making designs, and really enjoying the challenge of trying to re-create a design. Then, in April, I was reading an online brou-haha happening, where people were upset with a nail polish maker - like so upset they were swearing! - and I thought, "Geez, why can't people just be happy and buy polish?!" and a lightbulb clicked on over my head (I swear!). I thought to myself, "I could start my own blog and call it Be Happy and Buy Polish!"

That's what I did, my first post being April 6, 2013. I love the challenge of painting my nails, and I truly love sharing my nails with other people; but I still do it for myself, because like the name says, it makes me happy. The nail polish blogging community is so supportive and helpful, and that's what also makes it fun.

Guest Post. Christina from The Bubbly Brunette

Hello Everyone. Today I have another guest post for you. Christina of The Bubbly Brunette gives us a look into her start in the nail polish world.

Music Notes:
Hello everyone! I'm Christina from thebubblybrunette.wordpress.com! I started blogging in December of 2012, and I just recently got into nail art! since I'm still a beginner, I have been trying simple techniques such as this one: music notes.

Inline image 1

I used a base of Jacqueline from Zoya and then used a bobby pin to place dots of Revlon Knockout onto the nail. I connected the dots using an It's So Easy striper. After everything dried, I applied top coat!

Thank you for featuring me!

Guest Post: Samantha of Justonemorebottle. "How it all started"

Today I have for you the first guest post in my "How it all started" series. Here is Samantha's story about how justonemorebottle got started.

I have been trying to pinpoint when exactly I started loving nail polish. I have not come up with a specific time frame yet. My mother always had long beautiful nails that she kept painting. So I guess it started as a tiny girl. I remember her buying me Love My Nails brand polish when I behaved well in the store. The display was always close to the register. I would always pick one I didn't already have while she was cashing out.

My introduction to nail art was in late 2010. I got caught at one of the kiosks at the mall. The lady told me "you have nice nails, let me show you something." So, of course, I said "ok", since I was flattered she noticed my nails. $25 later and I now own my own stamping kit. I was terrible at it though at first and quickly gave up. After a while, I went back to it and have been stamping ever since.

As I became more involved with Pinterest, I had more desire to share my nail art. I never took pictures of it before, but all these girls were sharing their work, so why shouldn't I? I would share my photos on Facebook but get very little feedback. My boyfriend then suggested that I start a blog. I went back and forth with the idea for a while. I was worried that the lack of feedback would discourage me. I finally decided to do it. He created justonemorettle.com, and I have been blogging ever since. My first post was July 29th, 2012.
