Untried A-Z Challenge - Letter P

It's once again time for the Untried A-Z Challenge. If you're unfamiliar with this challenge let me give you a quick breakdown. This is a challenge where you the alphabet dictates what polish or polishes you use. We go in order from A to Z and either the name of the polish or the brand needs to match up with the corresponding letter. It's a laid-back bi-weekly challenge and people are welcome to participate whenever they choose. If you'd like to know more just check out the event on my facebook page

For my letter P polish, I went with an indie brand that is no longer in business and sadly caused quite a stir on the way out.  Now I don't want to get into all of that in my blog post, and I don't really like how things were handled I do love the polish that I purchased and wanted to wear it. With that said, let's take a look at Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice from Frenzy Polish.

Chocolate brown holographic nail polish

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice was released in 2016 as part of a fall collection. I previously reviewed another polish from this collection called Falling Leaves Ⅱ. I guess you could say I have a thing for fall colors. The warm comforting tones of green, rusty reds, oranges, yellows and browns. The changing leaves of the season are soothing and almost therapeutic to me. That's why I fell in love with the dark brown holographic nail polish the minute I saw it.

The formula is completely smooth and the application flawless. There was a slight VNL after the first thin coat but the polish builds up nicely to full opacity after two. Shown here is two coats plus glossy top coat.

I used Bluebird Lacquer Top Notch top coat for the first time and have to say that I'm impressed. It dries very quickly, I was able to lightly touch my nail after 3 minutes and dries to a glass-like glossy finish. I received this top coat as a gift with my last purchase from Bluebird but already know I will be purchasing another bottle when I start to run low.

Pumpkin Spice & Everything nice is a gorgeous polish that I'm glad I picked up when I could. It's a great fall color that appears to have a strong scattered holographic look to it but then you get it in the right lighting and you get a little glimpse of that coveted linear holographic arch.  I'd say it has the best of both worlds when it comes to holographic nail polish.

What type of holo do you prefer, linear or scattered? Are you a fan of fall colors like I am? Let me know in the comments and be sure to check out the other polishes for letter P week of the Untried A-Z Challenge. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sally Hansen - Lightning

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you celebrating today. I've got a quick post to share with you before getting started on cooking our holiday feast. This will be my family's first Holiday season in our new house and my very first time ever hosting a Holiday. Wish me luck!

The polish I'm sharing today is one I've had in my collection for about 6 years and is part of Sally Hansen's core line of colors in the Insta-Dri line. Lightning is a bright sunny yellow with a creme finish. It's just the sort of color I need to keep myself cheerful while I try my hand at creating my Thanksgiving meal. I'm not exactly known in my family for my cooking skills so the pressure is really on.

The formula for me was much thinner than I expected but like I mentioned I've had my bottle for a long time. I may have not gotten it completely remixed before application. Because of this, the first coat was very streaky. Like all the polishes in this line, Lightning is extremely pigmented and I was able to reach full opacity and even coverage after 3 coats. I typically use the Insta-Dri line for stamping because of their extreme opacity and thicker formula. Which is why I think my issues with the thinner formula were more user error than the polish itself.

I think the age of my bottle and the fact that my nails STILL have ridges in them for my foray into gel nails back in March are the reasons I needed 3 coats for even coverage. If the ridges were not there I feel like I could have gotten away with my usual 2 coats. Shown in all my pictures are 3 coats of lightning plus top coat.

Yellow is a color that is not always easy to pull off, and with my pale skin tone, yellow's typically look horrible. But that's not the case with this one. I actually like how it looks on me, which was a pleasant surprise. In fact, I liked it so much I wore it as a manicure for a few days, with some added stamping of course.

I didn't want to take away from the brightness of Lightning too much so I went for a more subtle look.  I used Frenzy Polish Gossamer and Pueen plate Fairytale lover 01 that I picked up from Walmart.

Have you found a yellow polish that works well on you? Let me know in the comments! As Always Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Frenzy Polish - Falling Leaves 2

I know we still have a month of summer left and believe me I'm one who is holding on to these days as hard as I can, except when it comes to my nails. Lately, I've been drawn to shades that have that fall feeling to them. You know the ones that remind you of the turning leaves or your favorite cozy sweater. Today I have one of those shade to share with you, Falling Leaves 2 from Frenzy Polish.

Shown with a matte top coat

Falling Leaves 2 is a pale grey almost cream colored crelly based polish with gold and bronze flakes that totally reminds me of a warm cozy sweater. Sadly Frenzy polish has decided to close up shop this year and this polish is no longer available. But not to fear I know I've seen a few options out there for polishes that are similar if not almost dupes.

Shown with a glossy top coat

Falling Leaves 2 has a nice even formula with a ton of flakie coverage with each coat. It is a bit on the sheer side and I ended up needing 3 coats for full coverage. I might have been able to get away with 2 coats if I'd used a thicker second coat but I opted for 3 thin one to help the flakes stand out. Shown here is 3 thin coats plus top coat.

Shown with a matte top coat

I wanted to show this polish with both a glossy and a matte top coat to see if either one helped the flakes stand out more. As you can see there isn't much difference between the two. I like both options but am leaning a little bit more towards the matte. Which look do you like better and do you know of any polishes that are similar to this? I need to add more to my collection! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
