Mentality- Jill

Happy Friday! Today I have for you a quick post about Mentality Jill. I picked this polish up about a month ago when Mentality had their big sale.  Jill is a coral jelly nail polish that dries to a semi-glossy finish.

Like most jelly polishes Jill was pretty sheer on the first coat but builds up nicely after two.  True to the Formula I've come to expect from Mentality, there was no streaking. Here I've shown Jill with 2 coats no top coat.

Jill does leave a few brush strokes but they are hardly visible to the naked eye. I only noticed them while editing my photos. and even then they were barely noticeable. I wanted to mention it though because they are there. I have a feeling a good quality top coat would cover them up completely. Is this a color you can see yourself wearing?

I'm really glad that I picked this polish up. Jill had a different undertone than the other coral polishes I have in my collection. It has a warmer feel to it, which I think makes it more diverse. I  can see myself using this in some pretty gradients this fall.

Jill is still available for purchase from Mentality if you'd like to add it to your collection. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

 *UPDATE*

In the comments below there were a few people wondering what Jill would look like layered over a darker color. Here is a photo on a swatch stick with 2 layers of Jull over 2 layers of OPI 4 in the Morning without top coat.

  1. I admit this is not my colour at all but I am pretty sure I would pick up something like this to try layering it over a dark base and see if some duochrome surprise waits to be uncovered! Do you think there's any chance?

    1. It doesn't look like it in the bottle. I don't really notice any color shift. But I can try it out and see.

  2. I was thinking the same as Simona! I bet it would shift over a dark base. :)

    1. I'll try it out and then update my post. Not sure if I will get to it today, we are leaving for one last camping trip this afternoon. But I will try and get it in.

  3. It has a nice shine to it, but it does seem like two or three times might be a lot to apply when you can easily find other brands that do the same job in one. I have mixed feelings about this.

    1. I have yet to find a jelly polish that covers in one coat, Im all ears for suggestions! 2 coats doesn't bother me all that much since 99% of my collection requires that many. It's rare that I find a 1 coat coverage polish and I own a ton!

  4. Its a nice color but I'm not sure if its one I would wear all the time.

    1. It is a nice color, but Im not overly excited about it. I like that it's different from the other corals that I own, but its lacking in wow power. I did layer it over black on a swatch stick and will be adding that photo a little later. It does bring out a little more in the polish that way, but still nothing the overly wows.

    1. Couldn't have said it better myself. I actually like this one better layered over black. Im going to try and get that picture added to the post today, but we are leaving for a camping weekend shortly.

  7. I think the color of this polish is really pretty! I probably wouldn't reach for it for myself since I tend to gravitate more towards cool colors. Jill would make a nice base for some nail art though!

    1. That's exactly what I was thinking. I can see it being a great color for summer pedicures too.

  8. I was thinking it might look cool over a dark color too (or even over a coordinating creme...but my brain always thinks like that because I layer so many things)! I can't wait to see it layered. On its own it is a pretty polish, but not one I think I would reach for often.

    1. I can see this being a favorite pedicure color for me, but not one that I would reach for a lot for a manicure. Unless I needed it as a base color for nail art.
