My First Chevron Manicure featuring the KBShimmer 6th Anniversary trio
After doing reviews all week I decided to mix things up a bit today and share a little nail art with you. I've loved the look of chevron manicures since the first one graced my computer screen, but they were a little daunting at the same time.
Just thinking about making all those even, straight lines were enough to send me into a semi-panic. I know we all start at the beginning with nail art, and I've even posted a few of my failed manicures on my blog. But I also want to show you good nail art and I have some serious self-doubt when it comes to my own skills. Thankfully there are decals that make this look a whole lot easier.
For my first attempt at chevrons, I decided to start out slow doing only an accent nail. Even with this, I was a little worried. Even decals won't give you a flawless manicure. First, you have to get them on straight and evenly spaced. I had visions of the decals not sticking properly and polish pooling underneath. Ugh, who knew a simple manicure could give someone so much stress. But I was determined to try this look, and I'm so glad that I did!
For the accent nail, I used 2 layers of Hexy Bikini and then alternated Beach Please (pink) and Shore Thing (teal) on my other fingers and topped everything off with a generous coat of Pure Ice Girl on the Run top coat. Once everything was completely dry I applied the chevron decals that came along with the trio and added another 2 coats of Shore Thing. I waited about 10 seconds and then removed the decals. Another generous layer of Girl on the Run and Viola my manicure was done.
All that panic and stress was for nothing. This was easy peasy and I love the finished results. And about that vision of polish pooling under the decals...pfft nothing to worry about. Just make sure you push down the decals really well along the sides of your nails. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
I love vinyl decals - they make me feel like I'm good at nail art, lol!!! This is beautiful! Hexy Bikini is such a beautiful glitter bomb!ReplyDelete
I can really relate to that feeling! I love Hexy Bikini, I wore it alone as a manicure and it was a huge hit at work.Delete
This is a great look! I love this mani on you! :)ReplyDelete
Thanks Jessica! I've wanted to do Chevrons for so long and finally took the plunge. Now I just have to remember that not every manicure need to be chevron. lolDelete
Yay! I'm glad that you tried them out, I was totally nervous the same way but I *love* vinyls now!! Sometimes I still have some trouble getting them to stick at the edges but it usually still looks fine. I really love this mani, too!ReplyDelete
Thanks and I'm glad to hear I'm not alone! I used an orange stick around the sides to make sure they were stuck down really well. That seemed to help a lot.Delete
they came out great! Yay for nail vinyls :)ReplyDelete
Thank you! Hail the nail vinyls =)Delete
It looks great for your first chevron design! Love the colors to it too.ReplyDelete
It was such a fun trio to work with. I'm glad I finally decided to pick it up.Delete
I love this color combination. The peek of glitter on the index finger is the perfect amount of bling.ReplyDelete
That's exactly what I was going for. I wore Hexy Bikini on it's own and while it's beautiful all the bling was a bit much.Delete
Wow I love this nail art creation!ReplyDelete
Thank Julia. I'm hooked on Chevrons now.Delete
I love this look! Chevron vinyls are great, and this trio of polish is so beautiful! I have Beach Please & Hexy Bikini :)ReplyDelete
Thank you. I didn't pick this tri up when it was first offered but I'm so glad I decided to get it. The colors are really fun.Delete
It looks great! Trying an accent nail is the best way to try new techniques. I'm still just trying nail vinyls accents myself so I get it ;-)ReplyDelete
I agree it is an easy way to get a feel for the technique without getting overwhelmed.Delete
No panic, no stress! Keep calm and paint your nails! I love your manicure!ReplyDelete
Awe thank you! I was really happy with the finished results.Delete
I love vinyls! Makes nail art so easy. You did a great job here! I usually just remove the tape right away without waiting :)ReplyDelete
I used to remove the tape right away when using it but found it gave me uneven edges. If I wait a few seconds the polish ends up more even.Delete
I love the colours you used and the accent nail is awesome! Those sparkles!!ReplyDelete
Hexy Bikini is awesome. I love the sparkles it has. It's one of those polishes that goes with everything.Delete
I adore this trio! Your chevron nails look great!ReplyDelete
Thanks. Makes me feel a little silly for waiting so long to try them. They really were pretty easy to do.Delete
