L'Oreal - Charmed, I'm Sure

Today I'm sharing another polish that I wore a few months back, In fact, I've already blogged a little about Charmed, I'm sure because I used it in a nail art look for spring. And to be honest this is probably a better color for springtime than it is for fall but hey, I don't always follow the rules and am a firm believer in wearing whatever color suits your mood.

L'Oreal Charmed, I'm Sure is a light camel colored shimmer polish with subtle scattered holographic glitters.  I don't know what it is but I'm drawn to metallic and jeweled toned polishes. I find myself reaching for them in the stores, and from my helmer drawers when trying to pick a polish to wear.

The formula was a bit on the thin side, but not so thin that it wanted to pool at my cuticles. Surprisingly it's extremely opaque and was almost a 1 coater for me. Yes, you read that right, this thin formula polish was almost a 1 coater!  The polish was easy to work with and went exactly where I wanted it to on my nails. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat. To say I was shocked at the coverage would be an understatement. I don't think it works well for stamping but it might be great in a water marble. I'll have to try it out and let you know in a future post.

Like all shimmer nail polish, Charmed, I'm sure does suffer from the dreaded brushstrokes but as you can see from my photos they are minimal. As we all know the camera picks up more than the naked eye, so what you see on the nail is even less.

Now normally a camel colored shimmer polish might not catch my attention but this reminded me of a lighter version of Essie's Penny Talk so I had to pick it up. And then I saw the subtle holo (which sadly decided to be shy during my photo session) and I knew it would be a color I'd enjoy. If I somehow ended up in a job that only allows neutral nail polish this would be one of my go-to's. Do you have a favorite neutral polish? Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Fair Maiden - Snow Jewels

So I have a confession to make. At the beginning of the year, I swatched a ton of polishes and then I lost my blogging mojo. Thankfully I am in the habit of taking notes as I go along but, they aren't very good notes. That usually isn't a problem because I write my post within a week. My problem right now is that I swatched, and wore Fair Maiden Snow Jewels way back in January and my cryptic notes haven't left me with much to write about. So based off of that this is going to be a very quick and to the point post.

Snow Jewels was released in the winter of 2015 as part of the Winter at Dusk Holiday collection. Snow Jewels is a metallic purple polish with violet to red micro shimmer and gold flecks

The application process was smooth and basically what you expect from a good quality nail polish. The first coat was a tad sheer but built up nicely to full opacity after two. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

Sadly because I took so long to get this on my blog I don't think it is still available for purchase.  But you may be able to find it in a blog sale or destash somewhere. That's all for today. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Queen of Hearts Nail Art

I thought it might be fun to kick off the weekend with a nail art look on the blog. After all, I got into nail blogging because of nail art, not just swatching. I've titled today's look the Queen of Heart but probably not for the reasons you might think. First off, there isn't a single heart to be found, but the colors are what inspired the name. Black, red and white always brings to mind the unforgettable  cartoon character from Alice in wonderland to me. They are bold and striking together which makes an impact and classics to me. Plus, as you can tell from the theme of my blog I'm quite fond of the color combination.

When putting this manicure together in my head I wanted something bold and eye-catching. I knew the colors would stand out when put together so a simple accent nail would do the trick.

I used OPI Die Another Day from Skyfall collection released in the winter of 2012 as my main color and Orly DayGlow on the accent nail. I could have opted for any of the white polishes in my collection but Dayglow has a hint of shimmer to it that I wanted to play off of the shimmer in Die Another Day.

The accent nail was created using the reverse stamping technique and my Simple Neat Miracle Mat (affiliate link) I know, I know I've raved about this mat before in a previous post so I won't do it again, but if you want you can certainly check that post out. The image is from Bundle Monster plate BM-223 and I stamped with Hit the Bottle As Black as Night.

Using my smallest dotting tool I filled in parts of the image using Die Another Day and Sally Hansen Silver Sweep. This was extremely easy to do without smudging my nails thanks to the Simply Set Tool Rests (affiliate link) I just picked up. If you're like me and tend to rush through to the nail art part before your base color is fully dry I encourage you to check them out. They make picking up my dotting tools or clean up brush worry free. And they are super cute too!

I hope you enjoyed today's nail art look as much as I did. Tell me, what is your favorite color combination when you're feeling sassy or bold? Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Dark and Vampy Manicure

For today's post, I decided to use 2 nail polishes from The Giver Collection by China Glaze. When this collection first came out I rushed to my local sally's because I just had to have the whole thing. In fact, they were pulling them out of the shipping boxes for me.  I happily purchased each one, brought them home, added them to my collection list, organized them in my helmer and there they have sat, unloved and unused. It's a common tale for me, I tend to be more of a polish collector than a user but I'm working on changing that. Which is why when I decided to get a jump on my fall colored manicures I went with two untried polishes with a dark and vampy fell to them.

Now if you've read my blog for any length of time you might remember me saying that I stayed away from the dark, deep , rich polish colors because I thought they would make my nails look shorter. As a former nail biter, I was proud of the fact that I could finally grow my nails out without them peeling and breaking right away and I didn't want my polish to take away from that. Wow, was I missing out on a lot of beautiful colors! Just take a look for yourself.

The dark colors didn't take away from my nail length at all. In fact, I think they make my nails look better. More sophisticated even. And as much as I love wearing fun nail art, I like to rock a classy sophisticated look from time to time.

The polishes I used to create this simple look are Prey Tell and Boundary of Memory. I think they go together flawlessly how about you?

Prey Tell is a dark wine color creme with a tad more red undertone than I was expecting. It shows up more in real life than my camera wanted to capture but you can see evidence of the redness up near my cuticle line. The application was smooth and even with full opacity after 2 coats.

Boundary of Memory had surprisingly dense glitter coverage with each coat, again I was able to reach full opacity after 2 coats. You will find black, silver, brown and copper colored glitters in this beauty.

My final thoughts are you don't have to be a Picasso to create great nail art. Sometimes all you need is the perfect accent nail. What are some of your favorite polishes to use as accents? Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Darling Diva - Tina's Rainbow Butt (le)

For today's post, I'm going to be a bit of a stinker and share with you a very limited edition polish that was released last February. Why would I do this you ask? Well, the short answer is simply because I can. The long answer is that I hardly ever and I mean almost never get my hands on a LE polish and I want everyone to know that I finally did! Never mind that it's a beautiful polish because it's all about me. ok ok, I know I don't have the attitude to pull that off, I barely had enough to write it. Now that I've had my little fun, let's get to the polish. I'm going to keep this short and sweet because I'm battling a migraine and need to get away from my computer screen, but I'm determined to get at least 2 posts done this week and stay on schedule.

black-linear-holographic-nail-polish

Tina's Rainbow butt is a black linear holographic polish that applied like butter. Shown here is 2 effortless coats plus top coat.  This inspiration for this nail polish came from a picture of the sunlight through a window casting rainbows on a black dog's (Tina) behind.  If you haven't seen it yet, just google it. The picture is pretty beautiful actually. Hmm referring to a pic of a dog's butt as beautiful, that's something I never thought I'd say!

There really isn't much more to say about this polish that the pictures can't say for themselves. I hope you have a great weekend, Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Sinful Colors - Song of Summer

As summer comes to an end and we send our children back to school I thought it only appropriate to write a post about a nail polish named Song of Summer.  Although  to be honest the songs of summer in Minnesota this year have either been raindrops or A/C's running on max. I can't complain too much though because the kids and I went on some fun trips and made a ton of memories. So in honor of the fun summer I had and ringing in the new school year, I present to you Sinful Colors Song of Summer.

pale-mint-green-creme-nail-polish

Released in 2013 as part of the Country Charmer collection, Song of Summer is a pastel minty  green nail polish  in a creme finish. It actually reminded me of Mint ice cream which is pretty much the only thing that reminds me of summer with this polish. And mint ice cream just happens to be my absolute favorite so, having nails that color can't be all bad.

The application process was a bit tricky. I'm not sure if my polish was thin and runny because it's sat for 3 years or if that's what the formula was like. I did try to mix it up a bit before applying, but I still had runny polish. Not to the point that it was pooling at my cuticles, but if I was in the habit of applying thicker coats it could become an issue.

Even with the runny formula Song of Summer was very opaque on the first coat, only a small amount of VNL could be seen. Shown here is 2 coats plus top coat.

While Song of Summer is no longer available in stores, Sinful Colors does offer several colors that are very similar if you're wanting to pick up a bottle. Personally, this isn't a color that I would wear on its own again. But I might do a mint chip ice cream mani with it once the weather turns colder. Or I can see it working out well for a spring time floral manicure. And I have a sneaky feeling with its high opacity and runny consistency it would work out pretty well in a water marble. I might have to try that soon and see for sure.

Anyway, that's all I have for you today. I'd love to know what your favorite memory from this summer is in the comments. For my kids, it was camping with all my high school girlfriends and their families. We had more kids than adults that weekend and it rained almost all day one of the days, but we made the best of it and had a ton of laughs. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

Bling and Swirls Nail Art

How is everyone today? I don't know about you but I'm very happy it's Friday. I'm even more happy that  it's a holiday weekend and I don't have any plans. It seems like I've only been home long enough to wash clothes and repack before we were off for another adventure. I did manage to fit in a few nail art looks between trips and I wanted to share one of my favorites with you today. I call this look Bling and Swirls. But I bet you could have guessed that by the title of my blog post huh.

A few of you may have already seen this look floating around the interwebs in various places but in case you missed it here's your chance to see it in all its glory!

I started with a base of Bling! from Colores De Carol. Bling! is a scattered holographic polish that is meant to be a topper but with determination, a little patience and 3 thin coats of polish I was able to get very close to complete opacity.  This polish has a serious wow factor to it! Just check out that sparkle in the video below.

Now while I loved how Bling! looked it needed something more, and since I'd just gotten my first order of Uber Chic plates in the mail I figured I better put them to good use. I can't be the only one who opens those nail mail packages and has their fingers just itching to use the pretties inside.

I didn't want to cover up the sparkly goodness but I wanted something that would make a bit of a statement. I think this swirl image from Uber Chich plate 10-2 worked perfectly for what I was going for. It's a bold pattern but the thin lines keep it from feeling chunky and intrusive. Because the lines were thin I wanted to make sure that the polish I used would be nice and opaque. Well in my collection the obvious choice was As Black As Night by Hit the Bottle. This has become my go to black stamping polish. One of these days's I'm going to have to compare it to the other black nail polish I have and update my black nail polish comparison post.

Of course, I had to take a photo outside in the sun! I wanted to show off that sparkle as much as I could. I'm also trying out a new to me hand pose and I have to say I'm really digging it. So that's all I have for you today. I hope you enjoyed this look and let me know what you think of the new pose. Enjoy your weekend. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!
