Maybelline- The Veils Collection

Today I have for you the Veils Collection from Maybelline. This collection consists of 5 polishes, 2 shimmers, and 3 glitters. Maybelline advertised this as a textured collection but I think those of us in the nail polish community can agree that these are nothing like the textured polishes we are used to. I guess you could say they have a slight texture because of the glitters, but nothing more than a typical glitter polish. All polishes are shown with 2 coats over a base color and without top coat.

Crystal Disguise is a milky based polish with teal and blue shimmer.  I've layered it over OPI 4 in The Morning.

The application was smooth and easy. Each coat packed a ton of shimmer.

Rose Mirage is a clear polish with rose gold colored micro glitter. I chose to layer it over Pretty & Polished Carrigan.

Application with this one was a little tricky. I was able to get semi-decent glitter coverage if I used very light brush strokes. I think the dabbing method would have worked out better. I didn't have to fish for glitters, but they did want to slide around on the nail.

Blue Glaze is a dusty blue micro-shimmer polish. I layered this one over OPI 4 in The Morning.

The application was again smooth with a lot of shimmer in each coat. I like how this has an almost icy look to it on the nail.

Blue micro shimmer nail polish

Amethyst Aura is a clear base polish with dark blue circle glitter and light blue micro-shimmer. I layered this one over JulieG Santorini.

The application was easy with this one. No playing around with the glitters was required to get nice even coverage. Although I do have to say when I hear the word Amethyst I think of purple and not blue. So the name is slightly confusing to me.

Teal Beam has blue and gold micro glitters in a clear base. I chose to layer it over JulieG Tahiti.

The application was really good with this one. I was able to get even glitter coverage without fishing or dabbing.

Overall I like this collection of nail polish toppers. There were no application issues,  and the colors seem to go well with a variety of base colors. I don't know if I have a favorite but Rose Mirage and Blue Glaze are up there at the top of the list. Do you have any favorites from this collection?

I picked this collection up at Wal-Mart but have come across them wherever Maybelline nail polishes are sold. I didn't see limited edition anywhere on the display or online, but I'm not sure if they are going to be part of the core line. If I find out for sure I will update this post. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

  2. Teal Beam reminds me loosely of Floam! Isn't it funny how mainstreams regard "texture" polishes? I've seen many of them say that glitter toppers are textures LOL. Nope! Gorgeous swatches of these!

    1. Dani I love your comments! They always make me smile. I agree Teal Beam looks a lot like Floam, and also Kaboom from Salon Perfect. I laughed a little at the textured reference from Maybelline, silly mainstream that's not a textured polish!

    1. If you would have asked me 3 years ago to wear blue nail polish I would have thought you were nuts. Now blue polish makes up the 3rd biggest color selection in my collection. I was surprised at how blue it looks against the black but I like it.

  5. Well those aren't textured for sure! I like Teal Beam, it reminds me of Ninja Polish Floam!

  6. I think this is a great collection with good variety but yeah, I don't know why they called these textures--marketing saw a buzzword and slapped it on would be my guess. :)

    1. That must be it, otherwise I have no idea where they get the textured idea from. The are slightly rougher than your typical crème finish, but that's about it.

  7. Maybe they meant texture, like it adds a layer of depth to the polish. I'm not sure though. I don't usually love toppers like this, they just aren't my cup of tea, but they look great on you!

    1. I agree toppers aren't for everyone. I stayed away from them for quite some time before giving a few a chance. Typically I use them for glitter gradients, but I have used them to extend the life of a manicure too.

    1. It is, thankfully it wasn't so tricky that I never want to use it again. It just gave me the most trouble out of the collection.

  13. I love that you reviewed these - I've been seeing them in the store for a while now and I've been considering if I wanted to pick them up. I think I'll pass now that I've seen them to be honest, but your swatches were super helpful!

    1. I'm really glad I could help you make up your mind about this collection. There are so many out there that I'm on the fence on so I understand where you're coming from. That's why I love nail blogs so much, they help me make up my mind.
