China Glaze - Pelican Gray

Happy Hump Day Everyone! Today I have for you an older polish from China Glaze called Pelican Gray.  Originally released in the Spring 2011 Anchors Away Collection, Pelican Gray is a medium grey polish with silver micro-shimmer.

Grey nail polish with silver micro shimmer

I wasn't too sure I would like a polish the same color as concrete on my nails, but I wanted a nice neutral grey in my collection. After all, you never know when you might need one! I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered I really liked wearing this! The shimmer saves it from being completely boring, even though it's very subtle, yet it still can be an everyday polish or a "pallet cleanser".

I'm sad to say that application was a bit of a mess with this one. It's a bit on the runny side and I had some issues with pooling at the cuticles. The first coat was pretty sheer, but it builds up nicely.  Shown here is 2 coats without top coat. I probably could have used a 3rd coat but I was using this as a base for a glitter polish and wasn't too worried about VNL.

I do like that this dries to a nice, smooth, glossy finish.  And I would wear this again, application issues and all. Although I do have my fingers crossed that if I mix up my bottle a little better next time I won't have as many. What do you think of Pelican Gray? Did anyone else have the same issues with the application? Thanks for stopping by and Happy Polishing!

  2. It looks great on you! I rarely reach for my greys except as a base for glitter also, but I always love how they look when I get them on! The one that I have that looks similar to this (Zoya Dove) has a similarly annoying formula, though :(

    1. I wonder if the formula issue have anything to do with the pigments, you know like how most blue polishes smell bad because of it.. I think I have Dove, might have to do a comparison of the two.

  6. This is one that I have somehow managed to never pick up over the years. The color looks nice (sucks that the formula is sucky). I ADORE that glitter on top of it! It looks fantastic!

  8. That glitter topper is great! I love a light grey polish - I have Zoya Carey which is a very similar color but the formula sounds much better!

    1. Oh I'll have to check that one out. Im not against using polishes with tricky formulas but if I don't have to I wont. Thanks for the suggestion!

  9. I find that such a concrete-like colour does indeed look super stylish and you pull it off well!!!

  10. That looks like a really great color! That's unfortunate that the formula was a bit iffy. It'd be great under some nail art though!

    1. It's like you read my mind! I keep picking color lately with the idea that they would look great under nail art, I just haven't had time to do the nail art part. lol

  12. I'm obsessed with gray polishes!!!! I love this shade but it's unfortunate about the formula!!! Boardwalk is the perfect topper for this! I love how well the glitters contrast with the base!
